First pair of Japanese denim: Oni Red vs PBJ XX-003

Hello all. I've been browsing the forum for about a month now, and I'm finally ready to purchase a good pair of jeans. That said, I'm not quite sure what to get. I bought a pair of Levis 501 stf's a while back, and I'm very happy with the fit, it's perfect for me (38x32, cuffed about two inches).

I've been reading up on all the brands out there, and I've narrowed down my choices to either the Oni Red or PBJ XX-003. I'm a 38 waist, so I can't have something with a skinny cut, or a low rise. That's why I'm looking at these two particular models.

How do these jeans compare? I want a comfortable, good-looking fit, but I don't want to oversize the jeans and have them hang off of me.

Also, I think I'd have to get them hemmed. I need a 32 leg, and it seems like a 38 waist is going to end up giving me a really long leg. I'm going to be ordering from Blue in Green, and they offered to hem the jeans for free. Would you recommend this, or should I just deal with the oversized leg?

If anyone has any feedback for how these pairs fit, or can recommend a good pair for me, I'd appreciate the help.

Thanks for reading, looking forward to your feedback.

both are great jeans, can't go wrong with either.

both have similar denim, both are relaxed cut.

if you like to cuff your jeans, you might not need to hem them, especially if you like the stacking look where the jeans bunch up around the knee and the bottom leg. i think both jeans are 34" in length (after wash) so, they will probably be the right length if you cuff them. you can also have them hem them later if you don't like the length.

Sure, but I only ordered them about an hour ago, and they have to go from New York to Texas. I'll take pics when they get here, though.

No prob, bro. We know you wouldn't have ordered from BiG if you were in the area. We just like jeans pics. Whenever. Why do you think there's an evo of jeans thread? Or the samurai contest?

Welcome to the wonderful world of denim porn. It's work-safe. Kinda.

I'm 36 in RRDS and 36 in PBJ XX-003 (And 36 in SC47s if that matters).

I got the XX-003 in one-wash condition. I'm not sure if the RAW xx-003 they sell in the US is the same size (Meaning: 2 sizes larger before soak).

Chipopo

P.S> Very nice pair of jeans. Great for wintertime. I'm currently rotating them with my RRDS.

Thank you. I've had the Onis for about two months now, but I haven't had a chance to wear them nearly as often as I would have liked. I haven't taken pics of them since I sent them back to be hemmed and chainstitched, but I'll take some pics in a few months, once it's really worth it.

And I deffinitely need to thank Miz for pointing me towards the Oni Reds. Looking back, the XX-003s would have been all wrong for me.

And yeah, the Onis (and I'm sure the 003's, since the denim is so similiar) are great for the cold weather. The 14.5oz's really keep the wind off of you. Of course, the slubby denim cuts up your legs, but oh well.
