as noted in the recent provocation and repeated taunting of zidane, materazzi has been known for vicious remarks and actions on the pitch.

let's take a look at his history:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Gyu8W1g2co&eurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Esoccerblog%2Ecom%2F

materazzi, whose father coached SS Lazio, famous for it's nazi and fascist sympathizing supporters, hasnt only been physically violent. some of you might recall earlier this year in a match that pitted messina against inter in sicily, messina's star african player marc zoro picked up the ball and walked off the pitch in protest of the monkey chants rained upon him by inter supporters. many of the inter players immediately showed support for zoro's actions. But one opponent yelled, "stop that, zoro, you're just trying to make a name for yourself." that opponent's name was marco materazzi.

he should be suspended from international and club football at easiest. and hardest, italy should forfeit the cup.

Also...Zidane shouldn't be striped of the Golden Ball award...he played brilliantly all through the knockout rounds up until he headbutted Materazzi. His played fucking fantastic against Brazil...that was the best game in the entire World Cup.

hmmm, you're a socialist?

words are words. Zidane should be suspended.

no, im not a socialist, but i dont take far-right sympathizers lightly, especially when they are so easily televised (see paolo di canio)

besides, it's not just words, but actions as well. check the youtube links

"FIFA in its Article 55 of the non-discriminatory policy states in its the new provision in par. 4 stipulates that if any player, official or spectator behaving in a discriminatory or contemptuous manner can be attributed to a certain team, three points will automatically be deducted from that team for the first offence. In the case of a second offence, six points will be deducted, and after a further offence, the team will be relegated. In the case of matches played without points being awarded, the team in question will be disqualified."

What you're saying is completely one-sided. Materazzi should be penalized but not Zidane? Why?

Millions of stupid people were fooled by Zidanes stupid tv statement. He said that if he had not attacked Materazzi it would have meant that what was said was true. This is not in anyway correct. I believe that A = A is a farily well known fact. No words can ever change A to B. Obviously, people are fucking idiots most of the time and in most situations. Logic and causality is unknown to most.

Rules must be followed, if there is a rule against bad language, and they can prove that Materazzi broke this rule, he should be penalized. The same goes for Zidane. He obviously broke a rule and actions should be taken. If you don't agree with this I expect you to write a list of circumstances under which Zidane is allowed to physically attack another player. Which words, combinations of words and which actions justifies hurting another player? If you can not answer this question, you can't say that Zidane should not be penalized.

I'm sorry I've got no sympathy with him either.

Zidane is a big star with a legacy to protect. People want to believe him - particularly in France.

Frankly Materazzi is a thug (who wasn't any cop at Everton). But so is Zidane.

Look at his prior form. I recall him attempting to cut a Saudi player in half at the last World Cup. He also got a long ban after nutting someone in the Champions League too.

yes, zidane's history on the pitch for blowing up isnt clean either, but it's mostly retaliation. materazzi instigates. I think it's about time that the instigator be penalized as equally as the retaliator.

and jinx, even if they were to penalize zidane further, as in beyond a red card (which is sufficient for the particularly violent acts), what could they do? zidane's retiring.

I still can't understand how a player of Zidane's stature can react in such a way and especially in a world cup final - and the last match of his career at that. Everyone knows Materazzi plays a filthy game.
