nothing to report, sam. love the boots. i dunno what else to say...

they don't crease so much as undulate. they hug the curves of your feet. the tongue on the left boot slides down along the side of my foot, but then i just tug it straight again.

have been wearing them 2 to 3 times a week.

for me, it has to be real leather. real, good leather is sold starting $300 and aboe. most notable are feragammo, and j. tod's...bally is for the 50+ yrs old.

I used to think this too, but after reading this thread I'm starting to feel that these Alden cordovans could be leaps and bounds above the Italian names.

This idea of the no toe creasing has got me really keen on these Aldens... I used to go buy $300 shoes and then come home, put them on, and then end up creasing them immediately and feeling that I ruined them...

That's funny DDML cause everytime i put my boots on the left tongue slips down too. The right one sits put. Weird!

Your boots look good.

here's a width chart

the links look helpful

so:

trace your feet, measure it at its widest and compare to chart

hope that helps

what are you ordering?

Thanks for the help. I measured up my 10.5 inch feet today. I'm a UK 8 (really had to clarify 100% been years since measuring). As for ordering.... Got my wedding coming up so looking for something 'just right' (meaning I'm not sure yet). After contacting Alden it seems that they have shoes available through Browns South Moulton Street Limited in London.

so, i went to my favorite shoe repair guy. the guy is an old greek guy who's been on wall street for ages. i always go there to get my shoes fixed, shined, etc.

anyways, while i was there, i told him that i got a pair of shell cordovans. he asked me how much i paid for them and i told him $500, with a sigh. he said, "that's a great deal."

he went on to explain that he has a customer who has been bringing in the same pair of shell cordovans for over 25 years.

that's some milelage!

*update on my shell cordos*: i love 'em. they are so comfortable and sturdy. they look great. today, i gave them their first polish with a dab of cordovan paste and they shine beautifully!

from now on, for dress shoes, i will probably only buy shell cordovans. they're expensive but definitely worth it in the long run, so says my shoe repair guy.

great to know miz.

Anyone order the cordovan wingtip boots from Alden?

I did. I think I'm the only one here though there's at least 3 of us over at Ask Andy that ordered them. The waiting is going to be a bitch. August is almost over so now I only have to wait through September, October, November, December and probably all of January. It's easier waiting for my kids to be born. At least then I have a due date.
