I gotta say this all reminds me of the icelandic delicacy, rotting shark meat; where they take a large chunk of raw shark meat and bury it in the ground for six months, and then tourists eat it. Only the tourists eat it, because it's tastes like shit.

Maybe if this experiment goes bust, we can pawn it off as the rotting shark meat of the denim world.

  • 2 weeks later...

Here are those experimental black Levis Slim Fit overdyed 516's I mentioned earlier. Not raw but theyll have to do.

Untitled-2-1.jpg

They've been hanging in the elements for over a year (from a clothes-line in the sun in the summer/fall and a bare tree branch in the winter/spring). Anyone familiar with the weather around Toronto can attest to the amount of rain, snow, sleet, sun, pollution, etc etc that these jeans endured. Theyve been frozen solid on many occaisions in the winter (had i known about this site then i wouldve taken pics for you guys, but I thought I was alone in my denim obsession)

Anyway, I machine-washed them yesterday. Lots of strange fading going on here. I dunno if I should hang them back up for another year to lighten them up even more..

The jeans i used are stone island dry denim.. before this experiment.. i damaged them with a dremel.. rubbed them in with car wax.. dragged them across the wood behind my tomos..

I buried them in my garden underneath some stones as you can se.. everyday we walk over these stones :)

How long should i leave them in there?

very interesting.

definately keep us updated. they will probably decay after too long. mostly, wear comes from abrasion and these will get relatively none lying in the earth. dont leave them too long. they will rot!

yesterday i dug up the jeans and washed them at 60c with some washingpowder..

it's quit funny.. the front wasn;t exposed to dirt and you see nothing.. the left side of the back was pressed by the pavement.. you see strange fading.. the right side was down pressed against the dirt and you see no funny kind of fading..

enough talk :D PICS :P

ive always been a fan of alternative washings

i washed my 7-9 month old apc in a stream. i tied them to a tree and let them sit with the water constantly flowing over them. check the evolution of denim thread.

ive always wanted to try an ocean wash, but glaveston beach is the worlds toilet, as is much of the gulf of mexico.

cliff diving anyone

?

those living in the austin area should give it a try.

Ya Corbin I live in Dallas and about two weeks ago me and some friends went down to Pace Bend for the cliff diving I think you're talking about... didn't bring my raws though, they are not ready.

We were also rock climbing there, you can climb up the cliffs, then jump down....

This is my first post so you know, my jeans are Rag&Bones RB11, I've had them since April and have started to wear them as much as possible and just recently started wearing them to the gym where I rock climb...I'm hoping I'll get some intense wear and maybe see what effect all that chalk will have... I'm going to try and post some current photots in the evo thread soon.

Cool sarlo... lets see them on when your done with them
