best cheap lunch:

pampano taqueria, an outpost of their far more expensive restaurant

some of the best tacos in ny, homegrown bklyn places not withstanding.

3 tacos

a torta or a burrito, rice and beans, and the agua fresca whatever it happens to be that day, for $8.95

in the basement of the crystal pavillion, 3rd ave between 50 & 51st.

yeah, my old job was literally across the street from that building (b/t 49 and 50, close enough though). i tried not to go too often b/c its not the healthiest lunch, but that place is tasty! pescado tacos were my fac.

^^ yeah dude. usually $1 slice joints are terrible by nyc standards. their only saving grace is a high turnover rate due to the price, so everything is fresh. regardless, it's prob better than what you're getting in florida.

ps - i can't fuck w/ pizza prices any more. a plain slice is $2.50 across the street from my apt. $2.50!!! you used to be able to get a slice and a soda for that price 6 months ago. or one of those crazy slices w/ like ziti on top.

Lee repro jeans? Obviously BiG is great for all the Japanese denim such as Warehouse and Samurai, but I was hoping to check out some Lee repros when I'm there in August.

Also, any places for good, selvage, raw denim in the $140 range?

thx

  • 2 weeks later...

I'm planning to go to NYC in either august or summer...my debate between the two dates only hinges on two basic things:

1. is weather in sept noticeably better than august? (i've been told the humidity is still in full effect in august)

2. which month would be better to visit so that I can be first in line (or near it) to cop fall goods?

(Already read most of the stuff that came up in search.. looking for new stuff).

Mmm..

Just moved to the US, living like an hour from NYC at most.

Nothing to do, so I will go there alone pretty much every weekend to get out of this town I live in.. which, in my past week of walking around, is about two streets big.

Any stuff to do after hitting up the pre-requisite cafes, museums, etc.?

Weekends remaining in the USA: 51

=_=
