Yeah, gee -- the United States dropping ranks in textile production really means that the US doesn't make "quality goods." Let's drop our massive R&D budget and go back to making jeans! Yeah!

LOL I gotta agree with you on this minya. Just because the Japanese make better denim, that doesn't mean the U.S. is "on it's way down" in any sense. There's that logical causation argument and another is also the economic demand argument. If there were enough kids out there demanding the best denim possible, I'm sure good ole American ingenuity would produce some new crazy outlandish material.

Sarcasm rocks when done well. Thanks min. LOL.

i was being a little tongue in cheek for humor, especially the title which was just dramatic for effect. i dont hate my country. but i was also being serious. i like japanese culture and of course the denim. oh yeah and the girls, japanese chicks are niiice. but no, the submissive part wasnt tongue in cheek. i believe thats how women should behave. but thats a whole 'nother can of worms.

The Japanese haven't just imitated or duplicated.

They appreciated the inconsistencies in old denim while (or after) the rest of the world was working to remove the inconsistencies.

...and from there they have taken things to the next level, to an artform.

i dont think we are better as such. i think it is more about the japanese psyche of perfection and obsession with detail.

makes us very good at copying more than anything, we do innovate but much of what we have achieved has come from some sort of emulation.

Well excuse me! Excuse me...

That's a little much don't you think? No need to be angry, this is still all enjoyable and silly conversation to me. I thought minya's comment was funny. No knock on you.

oh, i'm not angry. but it is getting annoying that a person can't post on here anymore without hearing someone's political views, getting a grammar or spelling lesson, being engaged in a historical or economic discourse, or answering the same, dang question for the 11th time.

You're damn right. I also suggest you follow your own advice.

I'm locking this thread -- this is why political discussions aren't a good idea on a fashion forum.
