xpost from WAYJDT thread.

It got up to a balmy 45F here Saturday, so I thought "what better day to get the motorbike out for the first time??"...

Next job is to rebuild the carbs, but I'll wait until it warms up a little more...

Gorgeous Beemer. When I have room for multiple bikes, an old school Beemer is definitely on the list1

So this year I really am going to get my license. Been putting it off for too long.

I got an old 1985 yamaha xj 750 (with a 900 replacement engine in it!) from my uncle to learn on. Just need a helmet now. And for the snow to go away..

I think i've seriously tried on every helmet out there and i ended up getting the Shark Evo-Line helmet (Euro edition because of the clasp).

Also, for any of you Bay Area heads..

This saturday at Santa Clara County Fairgrounds, San Jose, CA..

The largest vintage bike show (euro bike show, BSA/American show, and Japanese show all in one place), including a bike swap meet, and a flat track race.

Heya everyone, decided to enter the motorcycle world. My school is offering free classes and I figure visiting home from college would be cheaper and more fun to ride a motorcycle.

I've been recently lurking this thread learning so I'm more knowledgeable when it comes to my purchase and such. Could anyone point me in the direction of what a good starter bike would be? I'm not so much into harley or the sports bikes.

I can't recommend this bike enough for someone just starting out, so I'll just quote myself from a few pages back.

I'd strongly suggest looking into a Kawasaki Ninja 250. They can be purchased used for quite cheap, and resale is usually not only a piece of cake but also close to purchase price so long as the bike is maintained and undamaged. I did a lot of research and picked one up 2 years ago after taking the msf course and getting my license.

The bike will easily cruise at highway speeds without straining, slowing down on hills, or risking engine damage. Even though the displacement is the same as the Rebel/GZ250, it's an entirely different kind of engine. It has dual carbs, and redlines at over 13,000 rpm's. At engine speeds over 10,000 you wouldn't believe it's a 250. It's a very fun bike to ride, and not intimidating at all. The riding position is more upright than you'd imagine and comfortable on longer rides. With a low purchase price, easy maintenance, excellent fuel economy (I get about 60mpg on average), and some of the lowest insurance rates, the Ninja 250 is an easy choice.

There's also a great Ninja 250 online community over @ ninja250.org. Any questions you might have will most definitely have been answered in the FAQ's.

Also, don't listen to anybody who tells you "you'll outgrow the bike in a few months". I still have mine 2 years later. :D

Finally coming out in the US this year, pretty stoked.

Damn dude, I've been looking for a vintage street bike smaller than my CL450... that shit would be rad if I had $3k kicking around.
