VISVIM S/S 06 Catalog

I know some of this stuff has already been posted but here is some other shit. When you read this 80 page catalog/philosophical dissertation (which is all in English and surprisingly gramatically perfect) you cannot help but appreciate the things Visvim is doing; despite all the haters these guys are fucking amazing. For instance, Mr. Nakamura has received permission to use West Indian Sea Island Cotton, which used to be reserved for the British Royal Family in his designs, and has been making alot of nice shirts, etc. Not to mention the unbelievable amount of research that FIL does in making sure Native-American designs/patterns are 100% authentic. And regarding the infamouse Backpacks that half the idiots on here say is a "Jansport" there is about 3 paragraphs explaining why it is of superior quality; the detail on these things is amazing. Anyhoot: hate on...

There is a ton of clothing/accessories also, but those are some of the highlights.

^^ This really nice dude at Chapter in Osaka gave it to me for free which was cool cause they didn't have anymore of them at the Chapters in Tokyo, so I wouldn't know where else to buy one. All I know is that some sucker on e-bay would probably pay a pretty little penny for one because I have never even seen them before........

hahnstch -

heh heh, you got the book too? I will try to add some more later if the thread isn't derailed by haters, there certainly is alot of beautiful stuff coming out. I met Hiroki N. at FIL during my trip to Japan this past week, he is an awesome guy, I wish him all the best.

If Visvim knew what it was doing, it wouldn't be such a pain in the ass for me to get their stuff.

PS - Their naming of shoes after famous artists is dumb. Is that supposed to give the product an air of exclusivity?

I love FBTs but am not feeling the Shamans....a little too much. The Kiefer x Masterminds are sick as shit though, definitely picking up. I wonder how the Canoe Moc boots will look in person. Oh, and a quick update for anyone who will be in Tokyo:

I went yesterday and FIL had FBT Shamans, 3 colors of the lightweight goretex M65s, alot of thermals/underwear/socks, the lightweight raincoat, sea island cotton tees, the red beaded tees, and the navajo ribbon tees.........

Also forgot to include these; entirely new shoe design: Canoe Moc Highs

FBT = Fun Boy Three > a group of artists icon_smile_wink.gif. The catalogue is produced very well but the product shots are horrific. They don't do the pieces any justice. But then maybe they don't want to show all the details to keep fakes from being produced that easily. It appears as if the shoes are getting less important (a Vans Slip-On and a Canoe shoe as the only new styles?) and the clothing being the focus now. Only that the distribution hasn't noticed that yet. None of the stores I contacted will be getting any...

Too many people talk too much about too many things they know too little about.

why do you want their stuff if you're so 'over it'?

naming their shoes after artists is probably them saying 'hey, we should name our shoes after artists'.

I want their shoes beacuse I like how they look. I don't care what they're called.

Anyway, inserting artistic lineages into products annoys me. It would be different if Hockney wore a specific model of Visvims for 25 years, so they named it after him. Naming the shoes after artists only subtracts from the overall creativeness of this line.

i took some pictures from milk magazine that shows some of the other stuff but i can't upload them cause i can't get on the net with my laptop.

anyways i ended up getting the hypatex backpack and its very far from being a jansport. i like the fact that it doesn't look super fancy- but when you actually touch everything it exudes quality. i love it because i can walk around all day with heavy shit in it and it doesn't hurt my back, its very comfortable, and is never saggy because of the support built into the pack- you're not going to find this unless you get a backpacker bag probably and those are usually ugly as hell. i do however have a gripe with it. the laptop pouch in the laptop compartment doesn't fit larger notebooks- because the bag tapers towards the top, the top of the laptop pouch is too small to fit my 14" thinkpad with a extended battery (not sure if it would fit or not without the extended battery) but you still can fit it in the compartment with a laptop sleeve so the compartment still serves its purpose- albiet not as intended.

i've only used it for a week so far, but i love it and don't regret it (yet). the elk leather bottom is actually very sturdy but we'll see how it holds up in the long run.

anyway- just wanted to give some input since that's what i was looking for a month ago trying to decide whether or not to buy the bag.

I've got three Visvim packs, one from each of the last three seasons. The quality gets worse each season, but the price gets higher. Still the best backpacks I own though, but if they add another 40quid on the UK price again I might have to leave it this year.

^^ Actually sir, yes it does. It thoroughly explains how there is not really such a thing as an entirely new product since everything in some way draws from something else; It then goes on to speak about striving for perfection through taking existing products and seeking to make them better. I can't tell if your comment is a subtle attack at the brand or a genuine question, but if you have owned any Visvim products, then you would understand that when they use an existing type of product and make it for themselves, they really do make it infinitely better........
