It's short for "brothel creeper" which has a double meaning. It's a play on the crepe sole of army-issued desert boots. As the story goes, British WW2 veterans would "creep" brothels in their crepe-soled boots when they returned to London after the war.

Anyone know where to find creeper style soles online to resole some boots? I figure it'd be worth it to try since every time I find a boot/shoe that I like it's gone in my size.
