leather patch 501's

I'm thinking about paying around $200 for a pair of leather patch'd 501's. Old ones, not repro. No huge tears, nice wear.

Am I getting ripped off?

If they're genuine leather patches, not repro, then they're worth more like $3000. But it's way more likely they're fakes made in Indonesia or Thailand worth maybe $30. Particularly if they have selvage on or inside the coin pocket, and a slightly shiny leather patch (tan). Lots of fakes have white leather patches too.

There is selvage on th outside edge of the coin pocket and the patch is very slightly shiny, but it is a dark brown color. in one of the auction photos there is a picture of a pair of jeans with a white patch in the background.

Levi's never had a selvage on the outside of the coin pocket. To my knowledge at least.

Fake as they come. THe jeans pictured have a leather patch (pre 1955) and bar tacked back pockets (post 66). THe patch is totally wrong, and I note they've photographed them from far awya so you can't see the coin pocket selvage that makes it even more obvious it's a fake.

thanks guys.

I also bidded on a non-leather patch pair of jeans from this seller before I began to question the authenticity of her items. I really don't think I can trust these either.

NO, they don't know who reported it.

How does their reporting system work? i.e. why should they believe someone that reported something over the word of the seller?

Always a good idea to look at the feedback, here is the negative one, "jean was not vintage,sellar either misinformed or dishonest.Buyers BEWARE BEWARE" Also just from checking out some of the past auctions, seems like a suspiciously large amount of E Levis sold by this seller.

i dont understand when counterfeiters go to the trouble of copying intricate details why do they get it wrong so much

I don't know, but I believe they're particularly paranoid about counterfeit goods. But let's see if they cancel the first auction.

Danzarella, all their stuff is fake. Cancel your bids, and if you're over time, email eBay and report them as couterfeit. If you end up as the winning bidder, PM me. And check f-/back before you bid, next time!
