edc [everyday carry] shaved my wife

Been frequenting this thread for awhile now. Being an Oregon native I grew up with Gerber, Benchmade and Kershaw. Now I'm looking to pick up a solid EDC knife in the sub $100 category. I've owned two Ken Onion Kershaw's before but thought I'd see what the EDC folks recommend. Nothing too huge.

Also, anybody from SF a TAD Gear fan? Been checking out their site from time to time and the Yelp reviews sound phenomenal. Just wondering what thoughts on the shop were around the SuFu.

Any specifications for the blade itself (tip up/tip down, blade shape/grind, handle material, blade material, blade size, clip)?

Benchmade Griptilian comes to mind of course, a lot of Spydercos and the Kershaw KEN ONION Leek... Lol.

If you could give more of a detailed description (why you want to change from the Kershaws) then I could help you find an exact knife.

Yeah, I've had my fun with the ken onion series and kershaw's in general. There's one kicking around a desk drawer due to the clip breaking and me just getting tired of it.

I'll check out the Griptilian in the mean time. I'm not set on specs yet and to be honest as long as I can find something on the smaller side but versatile I'll be happy. Not a fan of the blade shape on the LEEK. I'm more partial to to the scallion or chive shapes.

I'll give the internet a good scour. Thanks for the tip on the Benchmade.

If you were willing to go up a bit on price, check out:

These guys have INSANE prices on the Benchmade 940 and 707.

They are well worth the extra money and you should not be disappointed.

Personally, I much prefer axis locks but Spyderco knives are extremely good and very fast opening. I'm just really anal about how fast a knife closes.

Also, just a heads up, Griptillians are notorious for arriving with a dull blade.

Jesus, this thread moves at breakneck speeds. Thanks for all the quick help. I'll throw up an EDC pocket dump when the new knife comes in. Might have to make a trip over to TAD Gear this weekend and use the trip as an excuse to pick out a a solid light. My wallet's gonna hate this thread.

I dont think any wallet is impervious to this thread. srsly.

Just got my juice s2 in today and still expecting two juice xe6's, a tank007 703, and 3 pill fobs.

on another note, THREAD IS BACK FUCK YEAH

WhoGotMeIntoThis - I'm a big fan of TadGear, great stuff, tho $$$$. I try to keep off their website, as I tend to leave with a lighter wallet!

and riff you gotta post them wilkins grips!!

Just a teaser... Work, pups, bedtime stories - all keeping me from having a quiet moment with the torx drivers...

Finally, the thread is back! :)

Yup, it's the G11. 75 euro shipped directly from Kevin to Canada, with no "penalty" from the boys at customs...

Edit: His custom folders start at 800 euros, so I figured this is as close as I'll get for a loooong time... :(

If I was ballin outta control, I'd consider this scale:

sooo good.

but yea i like the translucent scale, i just wish it was less green and more grey/black so i was thinking a really dilute rit dye job might work, or dyeing only the "inside" of the scale, etc..

EDC gear is meant to be carried and used.

You spend money on quality gear to be used -- form usually follows function. That knife costs a lot because it uses premium materials and engineering that make it a good utility blade. The fact that it's a beautiful knife just results from the skill of the designer.

It kinda disappoints me to see EDC gear as something "trendy" or something you stick into your pockets to get fades -- that's not what they're for. :(

It reminds me of people a few years ago stressing about how to wear their jeans and when to wash, etc. Jeans are jeans and they're meant to be worn, so wear them. Same with EDC.. :|

^ This is exactly like how a lot of us used to be in the Superdenim thread a few years ago. Questions like "how much starch"? or "How many times to wash in a year?", "Should I ever wash my jeans?".

I think everybody finally realized that it's not about how many times you wash, it's about wearing the shit out of the stuff you spend good money on.

It's what pisses me off about a lot of women's fashion. It's fashion and a lot of it lacks actual utility. Things are done to appease certain trends and seasons and without much real reason.

I can appreciate the utility of EDC in that, if you don't plan to use the items you carry, you shouldn't carry them at all. And if you do...you should be willing to spend a little more on them to make sure they'll last you as long as you may need them. A lifetime is always ideal.

Get a Snody shank, best bang for the buck out there. Got mine few weeks back, just need to press a kydex sheath for it before it can be my official hiking tool

I don't smoke, I just liked carrying around a lighter back in the Philippines. So, why not get a lighter, back here in the US?

Bandanna stays on rotation with another one, because I actually use them. Unbreakable is a MUST for me now...

Photobucket jacked up the last pic.

Cheap ass wallet with a store key/bathroom key, and the vintage key knife.
