Since you didn't list it, my vote goes to The Sopranos.

IMO, The Sopranos changed the game and completely raised the bar for what's expected from a "quality" tv series. I personally think The Wire is the best show of all time, but The Sopranos is probably the most important.

Just my two cents though.

Seen both. Layne is right. The Sopranos is probably the most important TV show ever made simply because it redefined what TV could be.

The Shield is great fun if you suspend disbelief at some of the plot devices. When I saw a few eps as a teenager (young teenager) I remember thinking, wow, this is some crazy shit, a show about corrupt cops? But watching the whole series as an adult, a lot of the events for plot progression are pretty incredulous. Still a whole lotta fun though.

Last few episodes of Curb have been really fucking great. Bill Buckner/Mr Softee might've been top 10 ever.

I never see anyone recommend Oz either, there's atleast one story arc where they jump the fuck out of that shark, but it's still a realy good series.

and this ^ for sure. SOA was dope last night. I was hyped how they wrapped S3 (not gonna ruin it, but hyped to see Opie do his thing at the end). This season's gonna be solid.

parks and rec and oz were difficult for me to get into, for different reasons.

The major Ireland story arc in season 3 was pretty weak, but the last episode more than made up for it. So fucking good.

Lost is probably pretty great to watch in chunks. good show, but it can be slow @once a week.

I watched the first two seasons of Lost when they originally aired, but then stopped for some reason. In the three weeks before season 6 aired, I streamed all five previous seasons via Netflix... sad I know

The first three, maybe four seasons were pretty damn good. After that, it went downhill very fast. Season 6 was a shit-show. I'm still confused about it, and truly have no idea what happened. If someone would've told me what was gonna happen prior to my three week Netflix couch festival... I don't think I'd have watched it.

This is really all you need to know.

I get a creepy/psycho vibe from the new asst. US attorney in SOA, pretty sure he was the brain-tumored reverend in Deadwood

Finally finished the Shadow Line, could've been a great show but in the end it was just ok. Ultimately, the script didn't live up to the impeccable cinematography, felt contrived and a bit dragging at times. Still worth a watch though.

Lost is best if you're watching it at the same time as at least one other person. You need someone as equally in the dark as you are to discuss it with.

Also, The Shield is best if you watch the whole thing. Like as ridiculous as it can get the weight of everything is felt more and more and certain story arcs span really long. Oz, like dude said can kinda old, but I watched it all. Adebisi is da best.

^It's funny how different shows are when watched week by week or watched in a big chunk. The Sopranos is a big one for that, when I watched it originally I "liked" Tony Soprano. Watching it recently over a short period really brought home how terrible a person he is as a character. You also pick out themes in programs more easily if you do the box-set route.

i hate lost in retrospect, it got swallowed alive by the fandom it generated though to be fair.

i mean, the quality between season 5 and 6 was huge - i still don't understand wtf happened there.

louie finale was underwhelming. this season didn't hook me in and i felt disappointed after each episode.

looking back, i really liked the battlestar galatica remake. good writing and a surprising and satisfying ending to the series. i tell people how good the show is, but the nerdy sci-fi element puts people off.
