169.4lbs today

started doing cardio as well.

hoping to lose these last pounds of pure fat, maintain, then clean bulk for the rest of my lfie.

very nice. i used to be against doing cardio (mostly cuz i hated doing them) but theyre extremly beneficial when you're cutting. plus, do your cardio a few times a week and you can eat a bit more of whatever you want :)

my cutting isnt going as well as i wanted. def losing mass quick, i think i might take on a month of creatine and and hit a high calory diet for the next month and try to clean bulk a good 5-10 lbs before i do another cut.

yeah Id rather be anal on my diet than spending the time doing cardio. If anything i would rather do HIIT. It just seems more effective to me personally. does anyone else hit thier abs 3 times a week? that just seems like overtraining to me.

you cant really overtrain your abs cuz youre not doing heavy weights and doing like 15 sets with it.

train your abs atleast 3 times a week for like 10 minutes per work out and do like 5-8 sets of ab excercises.

this might be a bad example but Ryan Reynolds started each of his workouts daily with 500 crunches and various ab workouts and his abs are damn near perfection.

Untrained abs look ridiculous in my opinion. Its like seeing a guy who buff arms and no chest, of course he'll argue that he loosk good cuz he has definition when in reality, he has low bf, and no muscle mass. it applies to abs as well.

I don't know.. I don't really see the need for such excessive ab workouts. they're just like any other muscle, right?

I workout my abs about once or twice a week for 3-4 sets each time

.

i remembered reading that its a common for people to overtrain abs although they have a quick recovery time. i also recall that they respond well to lower reps and higher weight as well as the popular high rep routines. I currently hit them 1-2 a week with 3-4 sets as well. i also feel them being used a bit on compound lifts.

you should be doing them heavy though and not more than twice a week.

you wouldn;t curl without a weight in your hand.

Ultimate Diet 2.0 is currently blowing my mind. It's really rekindling my love for fitness and nutrition. I've only read about 1/3, but thus far explaining how and why the body works is extremely informative. I always knew about the bodies defense mechanisms against starvation coming from the caveman days, but this is much more in-depth and insightful. Thanks for the link man.

I just discovered this thread, some good reading

I'd just like to make one point:

All the talk about training/diet suggestions is fine but it's really a matter of trial and error. There is no right or wrong way. Every body responds differently. You need to keep experimenting until you find the right formula for you. There is no gospel.

Yeah, I know this sounds trite.....but it's the truth

*ETA*

this is a great text

This RFL diet is really hard to keep on (especially for a 17yo).

I've been on it a solid week. Dropped down to 138, which is a fucking surprise. But that's all water weight + the fail of electronic scales.

Keeping it consistent at 146/147. Just need to hold out 'til prom in May.

you're 17. i perosnally would stay away from dieting too much.

you're still growing at your age, you should just keep a good consistant work out and let your body grow the way its supposed to.

well its good that its temporary but drastic diets at your age can stun your growth. at your age, you need all the carbs and fat and protein as you can get (short of eating too much that you get fat).

well in the end, if it works for you, it works for you, but i would just keep up with a good workout routine and eat a balanced diet.

Im with the slim jawns crew. on the otherhand it does look silly when one is out of proportion and had this hulklike upper body with stick legs. almost as bad when someone has thunderthighs and insists on wearing jeans with too small of a leg opening. the combo of meathead and a leg opening of 7 inches could be disasterous.

damn for some reason the only files that are corrupted in that torrent are the lyle mcdonald ones. I still want to check out ketogenic diet and the ultimate diet 2.0. anyone want rep?

everyone should rep Osnap for the link. Thats a good read. i like the lower fat approach and the fact that meal frequency isnt as important as we think. as well as having a refeed and a cheat meal in one week(for certain types) im sold. lowering fat intake as we speak.

I totally agree with you. I'm back to my regular eating schedule (trust me, I love to eat) and this diet has been rough. But it sure made me look at my eating habits.

And that's not a good thing.

Truth. But it's disappointing and embarrassing for me personally when I can't fit into denim because of my 25"/26" thighs. I'm pretty short too (5'7/8), so I have to drop bodyfat.

+++

eh, im only a couple inches taller than you and my thighs are roughly 26-27". im not one to wear skinny jeans but i dont particularly think my legs look terrible in "slim" pants. its all about proportions. if you have thick legs, work on broadening out your upper body to even it out i guess.
