I don't get the argument for the Touch vs. iPhone. $300 is a one-time non-committed fee. Just spend $10 and get the 2.0 firmware upgrade and you've got most of the new software perks and then you can shut up and enjoy the snobby Apple logo.

i have to say, this is the first macworld that won't render me upset for 3 weeks. i'm happy with my iphone which i got a discount on with my mom's at&t discount, got my new macbook pro for almost free a few months ago...and now in a year when its time for a new iphone they'll be cheaper. very cool.

One of the various countries to be receiving the iPhone on launch day (July 11th), like the U.S.A., is Japan...

3G phones are normally not sim-locked as they are promoted as "world phones". People swap sims out regularly in Japan (Have to love all those reasonably priced Pay As You Go sim cards Japan has available).

Although I have my doubts about the U.S.'s iPhone 3G having an un-locked sim, I would be VERY surprised if any of the iPhone 3G's over seas were sim-locked.

from what I read, the new contract will replace the old one,,,,and activation from Apple retail store is coming from At&t source, while apple is saying it's gonna be just like the last time iphone was released. only way to be sure is wait til 7/11

i remember reading that there was an early port of VLC running. if that were to be released on the app store, could i just dump some xvid stuff on the phone and watch it without converting or any of that hassle?

I think you could keep your existing contract but extend it for another two years.

With the new iPhone pricing it's likely they are looking to make money from you over the two year contract instead, or you could just hold out till an activation unlock comes out.

I'll buy one. The black version is oh so sexy. I just love the idea that you don't need to carry around your ipod in addition to a cell phone since both are combined. I wonder how well all of those upcoming apps will work for it. I'm hopeful, but wouldn't be surprised if there were bugs all over the place.

They announced in the keynote that the MAX price worldwide will be $199 USD.
