Why the red/white selvage?

Why does the majority of alla selvage jeans have the selvage in red/white? Especially the smaller brands. I've only seen a few brands with selvage that doesn't consist of white+different colored thread i.e Edwin, Studio D'artisan, Evisu, Gucci and Paul Smith, and alla of these are quite big companys. Is it about the cost?

it's like the standard that "always works"... like jeans with 5 pockets "levi's style".

that's the reason it is the most common one. maybe if the denim is shared with some other companies it could be the cause, but I don't think so, because the color in the selvage was supposed to identify for which company the denim was produced in the mill since the beginning.

imo white with red looks best. white with blue looks cool too. not a fan of selvage without white.
