brazilian music, especially bossa nova, definitely changed my life. when i was a kid, a friend of mine gave me toots thieleman's brazil project. it was my first exposure to bossa nova and to artists like djavan.

i first got introduced to boss nova by a movie called next stop to wonderland. It was one of the best soundtracks ever that got me into the music. Jobim, Joao gilberto, Marcos Valle Elis regina, Astrud gilberto. One of my favorites genre.

I absolutely love Bossa Nova. I was introduced to this by a friend over dinner.

Some of my favorite Bossa Nova artists are Sitti Navarro and Sana (who does Bossa Nova in Japanese!).

dom um romao is (was?) a great brazilian percussionist

he was in weather report, of course, but his solo stuff is incredible and worth seeking out

up until a few years ago, he was living in the germantown section of philadelphia; before moving back to brazil (or wherever) he sold off his gear for cheap; the drummer for the band i was in at the time (he is seated at my right at the moment) bought it all up for a song

funny that the reclusive astrud gilberto also lives (lived) in philly in the past five or so years
