Don't watch Rondo until all other avenues of entertainment have been exhausted. Korean and Japanese joint drama production with Choi Ji Woo, it was marked for failure. Japanese people are ashamed to have had a part in the making of that series, it was terrible. Another series just as bad with a similar theme is "Tokyo Wankei"

There are some good TV series out there, both Korean and Japanese. Just not Rondo or WInter Sonata.

I'm refreshing my memory by watching 9 year old kpop videos on Youtube right now and am completely blown away. On one hand the matching cosplay X terrible dancing is amazing, and on the other hand, I can't believe how ugly and untalented kpop stars used to be. The days when any Korean American could go to Korea and become a pop superstar are certainly over, sadly.

It was the US beef ban, and the only places left with beef were the high-end places selling Korean-raised beef... they lifted the ban, imported some cheap beef last summer, then pulled it again within like a week and put it back on ban I think... may have lifted it once more..

well, pre-99/00 (which I consider to be the last days of true, original K-pop) there was a formula that was followed; there had to be 2 or more singers, one had to be fairly good looking, and then the other could be ugly if they sang well (see: S.E.S.)... then as a rule there had to be a 'rapper' or auxiliary person whose actual role was pretty much undefined... usually this was a weird old looking guy, but as the years went on, they brought in 'scary' looking girls to do this part in girl groups.

Seo Taiji: OG status, but gone and forgotten. Drunken Tiger: much maligned with that whole drug fiasco, luckily they got out of the game before it became a complete embarrassment.

say what? the movement was never legit. like 80% of their members are a joke. was more of a publicity stunt to try to create a scene for hiphop in mainstream korea but never took off other than maybe DT and Epik High. DT split up, Epik High is just straight out gay and the majority of the movement is still lame.

whatever happened to CB Mass anyway...i know they did a few movement tracks but were they ever a part of movement? i havent paid attention to any khiphop in awhile.

speaking of khiphop, Lee Hyun Do recently released a new album under "the new classiks" with lee jin pyo and i gotta give them props, ive only heard one song...hopefully the others wont be disapointing...

Bada 10 years ago looked alien cute, but then VHS went out of fashion and she got older, and now the truth is out, she is a dog. I saw her not too long ago, she's moved onto musicals. She was the talent that carried the group, one of the rare OG K-pop stars that really could sing for their supper. Eugene was the looker, I saw her not so recently in America, a few years now I guess, apparently I had punched her little cousin in the face at a party the night before.

YSJ sucks, as does K-pop in 99.7% of it's entireity, but in this 'I can't believe this sea of thousands of people have come to see this ridiculously corny form of entertainment that is beyond words and unfortunately catchy' kind of way.

You know what Korea needs? A true rock band (could be power-pop, it doesn't really matter, just guitar rock in the traditional sense) that does the 'pseudo-indie then we go multi-platinum invading every household in a matter of months and change Korean music singlehandedly' act and makes manufactured pop obsolete. The time has always been right, but no one ever steps up to the plate. It'd have to be 3 or 4 guys who are incredibly handsome but strung out looking with swagger, with enough charm to garner high school girl worship over the plastic boyband clones... it could be done, but it'd take a miracle...

you have to put shit into context...korea has had western pop music for barely 3 decades...any hiphop scene in general is a good look for korea(we got dj, bboy, and graf covered, but rap has always been ehhh). 80% a joke? my dude, you need to hear tbny's first ep that shit is CRAZY. t is legit. a couple of others are also legit.

tablo may be suspect for doing all the tv shows and whatnot, but their first album was pretty good and they still put out something good once in a while...he may have gotten all pop, but he talks about important issues in his music(whether legit or not, this is something severely lacking in korean music).

cbmass turned into dynamic duo. dynamic duo was fucking great. they got the props they deserved and now they're pretty popular.

chopd is married and shit but he's still on guest spots and shit.

i listened to chopd's stardom album for like 3 years, no joke. i was in love with this album...and then i lost it and forgot all about him til like 2 years ago when i tried to download some of his stuff but no luck.
