regarding the computer building:

cousin built a computer for my brother and i. my brother got his computer much earlier as my old one was working well at the time. brother computer at the time (6 month ago +) cost 1k and was probably the latest quality/gear for gaming, etc. Several months following, my old computer (actually an HP laptop, i do not recommend this brand btw) broke and i needed a quick PC fast (school). Cousin got deals and worked out a quick PC build < $300. It does everything well for me, browse websites, play HD movies, casual gaming (CS, LoL)...

today, my brother's computer sounds like its about to crap out, a 1k piece of junk (exaggerating) compared to mine that browses the internet without any lag, or opening files on the desktop. point is, you don't need to up your budget if you know what to buy and what you plan on using the computer for. my $300 vs $1k works flawlessly (there are other factors of course like perhaps my brother not knowing how to maintain the PC, etc.), but look into how you want your PC to perform then set a budget from there after looking at the market.

Build one custom. For $700 you can put together something really kick ass from standard components, at least several of which you will be able to reuse.

I spent almost exactly $700 on my current machine which is a core i5 with 8GB ram, two video cards, a 750W power supply, and 1.5TB drive. I already had a monitor...
