This is a really hard question, do you mean the best bands that happen to still just be hanging around, or are currently still pushing good music.

For instance - New Order are a band I (and I'm sure heaps of people on this board) like... i really like their recent albums, however I would have way rather seen them play live around the mid nineties than now, since they are aging quite a bit...

Question:

Are the Silver Jews a "concrete band?" meaning, do they always have the same members? I know David Berman is the main guy, and Steve Malkmus has done a lot, but are there rotating members?

Of course there are tons of bands that do this. Dino Jr. obviously has different people fronted by J. Mascis. And it seems like NIN always has someone new on tour...just some random dumb thoughts.
