this looks good, you got some decent matsutake slices in there, getting to be the very end of matsutake season already here.

yes, the mushrooms are very good, the piece of salmon in the right compartment is lackluster in comparison. i did see alot of fresh matsutake on sale at the supermarkets as well, but didn't get any of those.

more simple eats:

The lady moved into her new apartment so been making good use of the new kitchen facilities ! (still prefer gas hob over electric though...)

First attempt at making egg foo young (Indonesian/Western Chinese dish) with homemade sauce

Marinated some chicken drumsticks with Taiwanese soy sauce (have to say it trumps Chinese by a mile) and a bag of five spices, then slow cooked for 4-6 hours

Side bowl of egg and tomato soup...

Went to a local cafe for a slice of coffee and walnut cake with creme fraiche and a slice of chocolate brownie

Rirawin sorry you weren't feeling Koya, their chilled broth, cold udon and smoked mackerel is my favorite thing to eat on a hot west end summer's day. Find the noodles retain a much more interesting snap when served and eaten cool. Junya is a wonderful cook, I had a dish of confit wild rabbit, raw turnip and beetroot there which made me very happy.

He's gonna do a guest sunday at Young Turks Ten Bells, as is James Knappett apparently, who's just left Marcus Wareing for The Ledbury. Far greener pastures. Dinner there this friday, woof!

I wouldn't mind revisiting it and trying the cold udon with cold broth, it was a pretty cold evening when we went, and having to wait outside for around 40 minutes, kinda put us off from opting for that. So instead we went for the hot broth instead.

I have finally Dinner by Heston to look forward to first weekend of November, that and a long awaited trip back to Borough Market. Though I've been told on good authority Broadway Market is the place to be these days... particularly for Lucky Chip burgers, is there any truth in that?

Lucky Chip is the best nostalgia burger in London, though I rate meatwagon and honestburger. Other good burgs include Hawkesmoor, Goodmans and Bar Boulud. I know tweeds has his own opinions here.

Dinner is fun. Many places I'd rather return to, but wouldn't ever say no. Hope you enjoy it. Teetotalers get a pretty good deal there, in the sense that its cocktail and wine lists aren't a huge amount of fun, while the room slightly harsh brightness don't make it the ideal environment for knocking back drinks with abandon. Loved the service.

Do Borough quickly, then skip over to Maltby Street a few streets to the east, much smaller market but more focussed and more proper. 40 Maltby Street/Gergovie Wines is where every chef in london now congregates for saturday lunch if free and able bodied, after breakfast at the St John Bakery. Stop by Jose on Bermondsey St for some jamon and iberico pluma en route. Broadway Market is fine, but doesn't come close to Borough or Maltby St. Really only notable for Lucky Chip and the Bahn Mi stall.
