Wifey and I are planning a long weekend in a couple weeks. We basically travel only for food. What do you think of our dinner itinerary?

Friday -- Saison (chef's counter)

Saturday -- Benu

Sunday -- SPQR

The first two are definites. Not sure about SPQR. We also have a res at Gary Danko, but I hear that place is like 15 years past its prime. Any other suggestions for similar options? Preferably something more casual after two tasting menus the first two nights we're there.

We're also looking for a burrito place, dim sum, and some cool street food. And places to drink... And people to drink with...

Shot in the dark -- does anyone have a hook up at Anchor? They're all booked for the brewery tour when we can go.

Lastly, I have a sense of the shopping I want to do (SE, Unionmade type stuff) but are there any good vintage watch shops?

Thanks!

Skip SPQR and definitely don't go to Danko. Go to Spruce on your third night or Bix if you want something old school, fun, and good.

My favorite burrito in the Bay Area is the Super Al Pastor Burrito at El Farolito.

Anchor's beer tours are booked months and months in advance and they don't make exceptions for travelers.

I don't fuck with street food in America, i don't like to pay restaurant prices and eat in a dirty alley.

Let me know what dates you're in town, if i'm around we can get a coffee or beer or something.

stick with those high end joints and youll be fine. i wouldnt waste my time on a burrito or dim sum in sf. in the east bay or the peninsula, maybe, but youd be better off figuring that all out in LA where that low end shit is a million times better.

i think ambiance is of utmost consideration when talking about mission taquerias. in which case i remember liking cancun on mission and like 19th for all the random violence and curb service that would jump off there. as for the greater bay area, i recommend el gran amigo for the same reasons. whenever i needed to get away from the city, which was often, id hit this joint up. its along the pch in moss beach, about 30 min outisde of sf, on a good day, and it sits at the mouth to the fitzgerald marine reserve. straight up baja architecture styles in the sense that its primarily a hut with a ramshackle dining area built around it. the food is decent but its really more about the laid back atmosphere, i used to grab a bite and then head to the reserve to smoke some weed or just relax on the cliffs.

panchitas2 on 16th and valencia has really really good horchata. not that orange whizzbang shit splashing month old powder drink around a plastic box, im talking homemade gritty herbal goodness. they keep it in a big ol pitcher in the fridge. seriously, its like ceremonial shaman grade beverage.

for out of towners, id usually like to head to east ocean on the berkeley marina for dim sum. if you can score a bayside table you can enjoy one of the best views of the bay whilst sucking on some gourmet chicken feet. also worth a mention is taqueria la familia in berkeley. its on the corner of shattuck and ashby kind of behind berkeley bowl. the owner is this big black dude with pictures of himself running marathons and in modern dance/ballet unitard get ups back in his heyday when he was a dancer or whatevers. wifey is this abuela that makes one of the tastiest carne asadas stateside. the place is more known for its fish tacos but im all about that asada. and since its in berkeley, you know its on some high quality yuppy thing.

the only place i'll really ever go to chinatown for is the bread shop on powell near broadway. its easy to miss cuz its just a small doorway with a hallway leading to the back with i think maybe 1 or 2 small tables in it. the workers there are old school surly so be prepared but a pineapple bun and a cocktail bun for like a quarter a pop is unbeatable. especially so if you catch them fresh out the oven. i dont think they make much else, maybe a red bean bun or something but they keep it focused.

for filipino food, man fuck that chafing dish sludge they go to in that vice clip. i kick it where the manongs do, lucky chances casino in colma. they have one of the best filipino menus and i almost always do the breakfast for late night thing cuz you cant go wrong with any of the silog dealies.

hope that helps!

most the ones in jtown are straight up ziller bangs. actually the only strictly japanese one ive been to was in west portal. they just had a tv at the front counter and a couple mics with like a 50ft cord that you could stretch back to you table. it kinda sucked except for the fact that they served alcohol (sake, beer, chuhai) after hours. im pretty sure its not there anymore tho. plus its not korean. sorry.. :(

I've only been to Emilios and Executive... Emillio is good, only one dude though so its not the most convienent... Executive used to have a really good barber named Jason, but he moved to Creative Cuts or someting like that recently... Really solid fade, just gotta find him

Going to be in town, albeit with my father and brother, during my brother's spring break. Trip agenda is being left up to me as far as what I want to do, but I only have a few days in SF. Stores of interest for me would be Uniqlo, Mission Workshop, and Aether. Uniqlo would be for a slim fit puffer jacket for this winter and for my brother, who I am starting to get into dressing better, Mission Workshop is to check out their messenger bags and I suspect purchase one, and Aether is for shell inspection and the store itself. As far as other stores go, I'm tech/material inclined so if there are any stores I am missing pointing them out for me would be swell.

I am a big fan of art museums and apparently the de young museum has the girl with the pearl earring on display. Is that worth a stop? I've heard its the location is prime but I am curious about the museum's collection.

Lots of good food suggestions already so I will just look those up.

not being a fan of art museums, id say the de young is worth a stop because of the location. even when it was ugly and falling apart, it was right in the middle of a great park. the legion of honor is also worth a drive-by for the location as well.

for me, the only museum worth checking out is the musee mecanique. it was super awesome when it was at the cliff house, but even at the wharf, its still worth a visit. bring hella quarters.
