^A lot of good crime writers have been involved with the writing of a few select episodes. You can see the complete writing credits for each episode at IMDB.

I just picked up Clockers by Richard Price. It's set in a fictitious project. He was involved in the writing of 5 episodes and apparently several characters/plotlines in Clockers bear a striking resemblance to characters/plotlines from The Wire.

Just finished season 5. Gah-damn! That show is impossibly good. Sets the bar far too high for a medium like TV.

^^clockers is VERY similar to the wire... great movie too, but obviously lacks the depth of the wire.

i just finished up season 5 and hoooolyyyyyy sheeeeeiiit. i didn't really like the season itself (serial killer was far fetched, newsroom was boring), but watching the existing characters' stories climax was just unbelievable. i'm speechless.

Season 3 had the best plot but the worst writing.

Season 1 was virtuoso, fucking amazing.

Season 2 maintains that same quality.

Season 4 is a zenith of television. It's the best season. The best.

Season 5 is a kinda of ridiculous, but settles into a perfect ending.

Bunk and Mcnutty's gay lines are so perfect.

Bubbles and Marlo were on Heroes

they all deserve to get some recognition for there great work on the best series EVER

one of the few things that weirds me out about that show, though: why the hell his Daniels so ripped??? dude has like 0% body fat, yet they never show him doing anything remotely physical, he just sits at his desk, and when he moves it's all super slow, calculated, almost plodding... it's vexing.

The only characters I can definitely throw down are Omar, Snoop, McNulty and Bodie.

But I agree, to list as few as five would be doing a disservice to the writers. Consider how many shows allow you to name even five characters you really like.

This show is pretty much cinema on television. A real throw back to a time when TV was still considered a legitimate medium.

^^i always thought brother mauzone was a fucking ridiculously stupid and far-fetched character, but bunny colvin is fiercely underrated. prez and frank sabotka definitely hold down the "best white characters on the wire" list.
