Sick purchase. I see myself buying a boutique amp when I'm a bit older and don't need half/full stacks to play shows!

Here's some info on amp I just posted to supermarket. Thought I'd crosspost, since it's such a rare amp it might be of interest to some of you amp nerds. Here's the thread: http://www.superfuture.com/supertalk/showthread.php?t=245860

I've had this amp for about 6 years, but I only gigged with it for the first year and a half, before I realized how rare it is. When I first bought it, I had an amp tech change out the british electric plug for an American one, look over the amp, and retube it. About a year after I first bought it, it blew its output transformers (while I was just turning up the volume to 5!). Since then, it's been sitting in studios, and only used for recording and the occasional 20 minute solo session! Here's some info about this amp taken from the marshall site:

The model 2000 is a lead guitar valve amplifier rated at 200 watts, but giving a minimum of 250 watts before distortion, and much, much more after distortion sets in. It features two independent channels, a mix input, footswitch channel swapping and LE.D. selection indication.

Channel A is designed to produce the sound readily associated with the Marshall 1959 type amps, but with lots more power and gain, giving a distinct bite right up to phenomenal volume levels.

Channel B has a master volume control and features a variable sweep middle control enabling the best sound to be achieved out of differing guitars.

The valve pre-amps have impressive effects-circuitry with three variations. Effects can be patched into either channel independently or collectively, and the pre-amp jack socket will connect it to other systems.

The valve power amp features both jack and XLR loudspeaker connectors and is variable between 4 and 8 ohms. A further XLR connector carries a 600 ohm balanced D.l. signal complete with earth lift switch for connection to a mixer desk. Mains input is through a locking cannon connector.

Some other fun facts:

This amp was designed with input from Angus Young and other notable rock stars of the day, with the intention of producing an amp perfectly suited for stadium rock sized concerts.

After distortion sets in, according to my amp tech, this thing was putting out close to 300watts.

It's rumored less than a couple hundred of these were ever made, they were only in production for a couple years.

For a hardcore band I was a couple years ago, I recorded with this amp going into a bogner cab and a vintage hiwatt cab loaded with v30s. I used a Gibson Les Paul, with a tubescreamer in front of it. Fucking snarling tone, I'm pretty sure its the best I've ever heard a marshall sound. I'll miss this thing.

I got rid of the Bad Cat, traded it for a PRS Singlecut and picked up a Omega Modded Fender Hot Rod Deville.. Here they are.. Don't judge me for not tuning, I had just gotten done playing somewhere else and figured while I had my stuff packed up might as well play at the music hall.. Turns out I must have gotten out of tune at the show.

Shameless plug: I've decided to sell my Schecter Hellcat VI. I'm an older guy and mostly find myself just hanging out with an acoustic these days.

It's a badass guitar though, true bass octave. Hit me up in a pm, I'd come in lower than my BIN for sufu.

Night%20Train.jpg

Just snagged a brand new Vox Night Train for $225 via eBay, so stoked. Normally they're like $500 retail.

On that note, does anyone have suggestions for a 1x12 cabinet to go with? I'm looking at just getting the matching cab to go with it (greenback speaker). It goes without saying, but the lower priced the better.

Check avatar? I really like the Mather oversize 1x12 also.

I really dig it, but I am going to sell it, I want to pick up a Dr Z Z28. I may just keep my Fender though and grab another PRS instead of another more expensive amp. I really dig the Fender.

Sick sounds. When I start picking up some more cash I'd definitely like to venture into the Matchless camps.

As a bit of an update- the eBay seller actually sent me a Vox Jamvox instead of the night train. I e-mailed him back about it, and within a couple minutes he had my money refunded, allowed me to keep the Jamvox, and said he'd give me the same price of the amp when it became available again at the end of March.

The only problem is it's April now, and still no amp. He's probably not getting it in- should've left appropriate feedback.

That sucks, that you didn't get the vox, but it is cool you got to keep the jamvox. I just saw a night train sell at 350, which isn't as good of a deal, but still a deal.

The Matchless is a killer amp, but I think I am going to end up keeping my modded Fender, I just have to decide now if I want to buy a Les Paul Special double cut or a PRS Mccarty with the soap bars.

double cut dude

i can't stand prs' but that's just me

I think I am just going to stick with the PRS and get an acoustic.

What don't you like about PRS? I just tested mine against all the Les Pauls and PRS' and Tele's at the local GC and I stuck with mine.

Anyone have any experience with the Epiphone Broadway?

epiphone-broadway.jpg

I've been looking more and more into it as I get into jazz and more chill stuff, compared to my 2007 Epiphone Casino. My casino is more blues-esque/rock at this point, though I do love the p-90's.

epiphone-casino-cherry-sm.jpg

I don't really have the funds to have a couple guitars, but I do play a rock gig every week- I always love the sound of a brooding jazz box. Any word?

check into a vintage archtop if you're low on funds but want a nice jazz guitar

there are nice ones near me (kay brand, i believe... same make as silvertone and all of the ones they used to sell out of a sears catalogue) for like 300-400, in varying conditions, but i'm sure they sound better than anything new by epiphone

current rig

5799174082_55226ccb76_z.jpg

highway one strat with lace pickups like corgan era siamese dream, 81 gibson sonex custom (thinking about selling), 99 sg special with old sonex zebra dirty fingers pickup in the bridge.. high school grad gift from my parents (has toured the country), 76 gibson marauder custom (finally playable! superchunk ftw) and recent acquisition 62 american reissue jazzmaster with mustang bridge. Until I can get a les paul custom, I'm sitting tight for a bit.

practice amp is a blues jr with celestion greenbacks and accutone reverb tank. my 1969 twin is just too heavy to play these days without a band. random pedals, really loving my diamond overdrive and shredmaster these days!

this is my last working rig...

a guitar that i have had for ever...

hondo.jpg

had a few old friends do something of an intervention this year to get me playing in a band again. i still had the hondo and my pedals in storage but needed to get an amp desperately as the blues jnr i was using at practice sucked arse.

had my heart set on an orange th30 was going to build a 2 12" with my drummer.

then i decided i wanted a guitar to replace the teisco with fat single coils and and maple fretboard, i like putting a bright loud guitar into a muddy amp and playing it hard.

so started checking out getting a 60s nz amp holden jansen or gunn. i have used all three in the past. while you used to be able to pick them up for a few hundy, they have all gone up in price, i ended up getting a marshall jtm 610 for cheaper than i could get a shitty jansen bassman head. the three 10" are kinda cool might add a 2X12 extention later.

went to the guitar store and tried out a heap of guitars, my favourite regardless of price was a squire tele custom II, the indonesian made squires are great, i predict that these guitars will be like the mid 70s japanese copies and be sought in years to come.

squire tele custom II

70s small stone

90s small clone reissue

marshall jtm 610 [with a patch cable jumping the parallel loop for a little extra gain]

sounds kinda like this
