ok, aZn pride being goodie goodie. i'm going to treat this like an actual serious question. i'm assuming you are asking, "why do displays of asian pride seem hokey?"

during the 60's and 70's on the west coast, there was a "yellow power" movement, believe it or not. one of the results of the movement was in 1968, when a japanese-american by the name of yuji ichioka from berkeley coined the term "asian american" as opposed to the common term "oriental". the yellow power was a very important and influential movement but has been downplayed by the history books and media.

around the same time the term "model minority" was coined to refer to asians being a good example of how a minority should behave in a country run by whites. this was the opposite of the way blacks were viewed. "model minority" and the connotations that went with that term divided the efforts of blacks and asians and also created another type of racial stereotyping and domination by the ruling power. the "model minority" belief was pushed by media and effectively minimalized the yellow power movement (which had very little media exposure).

so, to return to your question, "why do aZn pride stuff always sound retardedly goodie goodie?" i think the reason some people think this is because of the "model minority" mentality. this mentality makes people think, "why should asians have pride when they have nothing to struggle for?" when in fact asians should have a lot of pride for overcoming racism and struggles that still go on today. asian pride seems "goodie goodie", to use your terms, when you think asians are "goodie goodie", i.e. "model minority".

in many asian countries, it's illegal to show private parts in any medium (tv, dvd, magazines, ...). but specifically in japan, it became legal to show pubic hair (and anus) few years back. since then, i think it evolved to a point where people would rather see a lot of bush covering up the vagina, rather than seeing the mozaics, the other method of hiding things that are illegal for people to see. go figure.

but with the accessibility of the internet now, i don't know if they're that important anymore.

people also hunted for uncensored videos, and those were available from the people who made the video but edited special "cuts" to sell underground. i think many of these are also available overseas now, where they aren't illegal to sell.

i have to admit this is probably true. i never went to a japanese school myself, but i know for a fact that it's been a problem forever they never mention any of the atrocities japanese soldiers performed overseas in asian territories they occupied. i don't believe in denials and am deeply disturbed by this bs.

i've also noticed pretty much very little about japanese americans is taught in japan.

recently, it was also revealing to me that my sister who went to good japanese schools and aced history, had never heard of the turtle boat, which from what i understand is a part of the korean pride. to me, it would be beneficial to the japanese people to understand a little bit about their neighbors.
