This reminds me of the time I was at the floating market north of Bangkok and there were these women in the water in a tiny canoe with two huge woks of boiling oil in between their legs (they were selling fresh fried bananas).....there were motor boats going by making little waves and boiling oil is sloshing back and forth.......fucking crazy ladies. kali, escrima and arnis--let's just use the term Filipino Martial Arts--are not super popular because they don't have good marketing. Karate, kung-fu, even bjj are brand names that are famous worldwide. FMA is effective (some forms) but is not as famous, thus, not as popular.

as for martial art that is effective in a street fight, that could be its own thread. but the sad thing is, most street fights involve fighting more than one person or involve a weapon. the best defense is avoidance and common sense.

SInce Asia is such a large continent, and most people in the world are Asian, you're talking about a lot of Asian women. So I'm not sure what your question is. Are you say that from your experience in Asia, that the Asian women that you saw were running around everywhere? Or that in your opinion, Asian women jog a lot?

in many asian countries, it's illegal to show private parts in any medium (tv, dvd, magazines, ...). but specifically in japan, it became legal to show pubic hair (and anus) few years back. since then, i think it evolved to a point where people would rather see a lot of bush covering up the vagina, rather than seeing the mozaics, the other method of hiding things that are illegal for people to see. go figure.

apparently, many asians lack the ability to sweat compared to other races (smaller sweat glands). this combined with dark hair that absorb a lot of heat, asian people are more prone to heat strokes. for example, kids in japan are advised nationally to wear hats during the summer months because many of them end up in the hospital, otherwise.

at least in japan, eating competition is a big part of the culture. there are so many little eateries that have things like, "if you eat two bowls of our giant ramen in less than 30 minutes, you get them for free." and a great misconception is that the bigger you are the more you can eat. it's usually normal-sized women and business men in japan who can out-eat other people, and not the big judo wrestler types. i've heard the more your system can stretch, the more you can eat. if you have too much fat and/or muscle surrounding your digestive system, ultimately you are limited to the amount you can contain at one time. the rest is in your ability to withstand pain.

speaking of, the other competitions big in japan are things like standing around in nothing but a speedo in the middle of the winter and see who lasts the longest, bundling up in heavy coats and sitting in a sauna-like condition in the middle of the summer, and keep chugging a bunch of water without peeing in your pants. discipline had always been an important characteristic of the people there and i think people have taken things to a strange extreme.

What's with asians and Spam?

spam was originally created for the american soldiers. hi-energy/protein food that won't go bad and are easily transportable. so wherever americans occupied, there were spams. koreans, in particular, seem to have adopted spam with open arms. they smell surprisingly good when fried (imagine bacon + chicken + sausage cooked all at once) and they go really well with kimuchi, if you've acquired that taste (the spice + salt combo).

the answer to this is similar to the one above, in the bush question. because it was illegal to show private parts in real life, people resorted to drawing and animating them. but because they became so provocative and realistic in some instances, it also became illegal to show private parts in cartoons and illustrations. therefore, all the blurs and mosaics, even in anime. (but bush and anus is okay. please don't ask why. i don't make the rules.)

that was me. perhaps another way to say it is "tall ass". like how some races have "wide ass" or "big ass" or even "apple bum," the consensus of japanese denim designers is that the japanese people have "long ass". i think it basically means that the hip bones are tall making the area of the ass longer. and this affects the way they design the rise. many asians don't look too good in low rise jeans. i've noticed myself that i tend to look better in jeans that have taller rise in the back than front. when it's more even, it just doesn't look right. hope this makes sense.
