It happens every once in a while Usually if you do your own promotion you can at least get your friends out and have a fun party w/ 20-30 of yous. I'm not sure how it works in Cali but we've built up an internal mailing list of about 20,000 people that have come to our parties and it guarantees that I always have a decent turnout at my dj gigs.

However, on the off chance that you don't blast somethign... I end up playing stuff that i enjoy during this time and just shooting the shit with promoters. :\ Free drinks?

Usually we do online promo's. Small things like 'sign up online for our mailing list' on your myspace to start then create a small RSVP page for each party that people who see it can use and include that on all promo material (going.com, forums, myspace, fbook, twitter, rhythmism, blog emails).

We started a monthly party to assist and we do reduced admission for RSVP's but as you're just djing i would ask the promoter if you can bring a list and give them $1-2 off or 1 free drink, etc. Usually they're willing to work with you as it's no cost to them and you are bringing more people in.

As for Cali, I think I'll be there in April. Planning to play Binary's coachella party but not sure what other gigs are around that time Is The Heist still going on?
