Indie-Dance/Electro/Neu-Rave/Disco/House Music: We Are Your Friends.

I dig that SuperTroels guy. He's got a sick beard too.

There was a book being recommended highly by the folks on these forums and the Erol Alkan forums called "How To DJ Right" by Bill Brewster and Frank Broughton.

I read through the first part, which is essentially the technical side of mixing. There's like half a page about digital mixing, which left me pretty disappointed. After reading it, it's obvious you need to know how vinyl works, but if you're going to use software, you need to know how THAT works too.

Are there any well-regarded reference/tutorial books for serato or traktor?

the song sounds good. do you actually support and like lindsay lohan? if so you are lame, either that or you didn't even listen to the lyrics, dumbass.

in my opinion, production is superior and shit is way more catchy than the alternate spankrock. i am considered GOD when compared to the likes of you in this thread.

Production is not good at all and there is no depth to the music. Again, if this pop stuff gets people into the real vein, then its serves a purpose. :)

it's party music. don't really understain what you mean by "gets people into the real vein."

Like anything, people get introduced to something for the first time, probably don't know that much about it but like it and then start to investigate further. With dance music, sometimes its through acts like the prodigy or justice or what ever and when their ear gets tired or the music becomes predictable they start getting deeper into the real stuff. In alot of cases there are elements of the real stuff in the music that got them interested in the first place and unknown to them selves this is what drew them in. Hopefully then they even start to investigate how the music is made and take the step into production. But to others its just party music and thats fine too.

okay. please give me some examples of "real stuff." i'm pretty sure that pase rock's production (which may seem poor 2 u) is premediated. i mean that nigga is trying to sound antique.

Here's a good example by a Japanesse American guy called daniel wang. Him along with metro area and a few others were responsible for bringing underground 80's disco back in the late 90's. Italians do it better etc are all just continuing on what they started.

Hear that on a good system in a dirty underground club in berlin at 4 am and you a have a party ;)

^thanks, but i am already aware of daniel wang (who is tops), but he's obviously been trying to do chicago house/disco shit while pase rock is obviously trying to sound like ancient nyc shit.

oh and btw. daniel wang is chinese not jap.

Lets just put it this way, morgan geist or who ever wouldn't make a song about lindsey lohan who ever she is :)

Jmatsu, if you haven't already checked it out, there are some great recordings of 80's dance mixes, from wbmx, larry levan live at the paradise garage etc on this site: http://www.deephousepage.com/mixes.php

i don't understand why you are apparently trying to compare metroarea to pase rock. this thread is about alota types of dance music. if you had said some shit like sweat x, yo majesty or spank rock's production is better or tried comparing music along those lines, i could def fathom that kind of motivation/statment (waaay better).

originally i just stated that the production is good for what it is and what it is attempting to be, because that other guy took one look at a song title called "lindsey lohan's revenge" and immediately dismissed pase rock as wack/whatever. he probably didn't even listen to it.

Thomas Bangalter's solo stuff is amazing in my opinion.

I haven't been able to find a lot of house music that holds my attention long enough but somehow his beats are catchy enough that I don't mind that they're being repeated for 5 minutes on end.

his ost for Irreversible is epic...great dark and moody shit

I don't like nu-rave/electrohouse whatever you wanna call it.

I like a bit of the french stuff mr oizo especially, but i find most to be really cheesy tacky shit.

I live for electro and minimal synth/wave stuff though.

Artists: Sleep Museum, Porn.Darsteller, Le Syndicat Electronique, Beta Evers, Legowelt, I-F, Novamen, Hadamard, Martial Canterel, Staccato Du Mal...etc

anyone know/dig?

Nike and Cassius are collaborating to do a track specifically for running. A previous experiment like this occurred involving LCD Soundsystem with fantastic results.

http://cassius.running6453.com/

anyone know when or where i can obtain a copy of this?

they did something similar with aesop rock at one point...not electro etc etc related but still worth mentioning.

the old salty dogs of electronic music will vehemently throw this back in my face but I thoroughly enjoy bouncing along to Mstrkrft's essential mix:

http://kidzbycolette.free.fr/MSTRKRFTEssentialMix240508.mp3

all criticisms of their originality/level of musical talent aside, this is just some downright fun shit to listen to.

and i love Jesse's rationale towards the beginning of why they don't usually record their live mixes. come on, take it easy on him guys. you're making him self-conscious :)
