i kinda kinda learned about cicadas before... from what I remember:

1. adult male and females come up at the same time = sychronous emergence -- in an attempt to mate as soon as possible, and as many times as possible

2. they only live for a few days

3. females lay their eggs on the top of tree branches on the tree, or inside the hollows.

4. larvae emerge from the eggs and fall from the trees into the dirt where they borrow in.

5. they feed on roots (xylem from the roots?) / the water of their host tree and slowly slowly SLOWLY grow

6. adults only emerge every xxx number of years, something like 15 years? (in cult's case, 17?)

7. they are phytaphagous (plant eaters, in fact i dont think they even have mouths in their adult winged form) - probably wrong.

8. they make lots of sound? like crazy amounts of sound?

right? wrong? help me out here, they freak me out, even though I know theyre harmless to me. i forgot the specifics directly after that midterm. lol@ "well-rounded edumakayshun"

this is all pretty much right on. they have no teeth as adults and make crazy amounts of noise. however they will be around a bit longer than a few days. they will be around ( the end of july !!!)
