why do some jeans stack like

where it just bunches up at the ankle

and some

bunch from knee down.

is it the cut? inseam length? just because they're new and will eventually go down to ankle?

length....if it's longer than it'll stack more...if its just 2 inches longer, then it'll only stack at the ankle...

It has a lot to do with the fit of the jean. For instance, in the first photo, you'll notice that the leg of the jeans are much closer to his calves and are much tighter on his thighs, which means that the denim won't float around his legs, like on the looser fit nudies.

Also, the nudies appear to have far more fabric even than the gap straight legs. You'll see that the nudies do have considerable ankle stacking, but there is enough left that it carries up through the knee as well.

Basically the answer is the fit. The best way to look at it is that you tend to see a lot of ankle stacking in Diors, for instance, because they are very tight and can be 'trained' to do so.

Those nudies are hella stacked. I'm so very not up on the whole stacking style, I was always told thats the opposite of what you want.

its definately the stiffness. ive had numerous occasions where there is stacking from the knee down where the jeans were real stiff.

Doesn't it have to be a combination of factors? Like stiff denim and long inseam? IF it was just the stiffness of denim then stiff denim at the correct inseam would stack to the knee, but that's not the case. You have to have stiff denim and a long inseam.

You can stack with washed denim as well. It just happens a bit easier when it's stiff.

The only thing you really need is an oversized inseam. I wear a 32 and my Earnest Sewns stack at 33 and 34 just fine.

It's all about the fit and the stiffness. The denim in picture 1 is probably softer and worn in while the denim in picture 2 is probably rigid and newer

Another stacking Q: How do I get the bunching where its small little stacks as opposed to one or two big bulges? I get the wide bulging on jeans that typically stack well on others (dior, apc) - whats the secret?

The tighter they are, the more they stack. If they're loose, you'll only get a few large folds. If they're really loose, they're 'Roca'. And you'll be sorry.
