Ive been struggling to find black 26" mudguards/fenders to fit a 32mm tyre, ive might end up powdercoating some Gilles Berthoud..

..or maybe i'll up the tyres to something like Naches Pass, im not sure yet. Ive looked at Honjo, Velo Orange and such, any others metal fenders out there which ive missed?

Ive been waiting for what seems like an age for EMS to come back online so i can order a steel stem

Finally got rid of this thick aluminium Deda stem on my daily beater

Got this from SimWorks

Had to machine a bit off the spacers to get rid of the lip where it meets the headsetfullsizeoutput_310d.thumb.jpeg.e66ad6aa4b4b1f47c6cd20e0ac02dac9.jpeg

There we go, much more in keepingfullsizeoutput_3110.thumb.jpeg.9f158166df6b4daaa809f617b322391a.jpeg

Just need to replace the crank with something a bit more elegant which i'll probably do next year.

Yep, those are nice, i'm running 'Brick Lane Bikes' home brand on my daily, they're just poor man's MKS

These are pretty quirky, single step Dixna

..to save weight they've removed the double step and replaced it with a small balance weight so they're always self leveling, I got them from Hakkle

I can't be clipped in, the roads are just too damn hazardous..

Pfft! check this shit out... 'Brooks England' despite claiming to be based in England since 1866 will no longer ship products to England from their base in Italy unless you pay £135 premium.

What the fuck!

That’s crazy. Seems like y’all still have good prices on other things tho… I’ve been buying tubulars from Merlin online because they are half the price as American shops for veloflex and vittoria

Aye, there are still a few flying the classic road bike flag.. we had a golden age of British road racing bikes which ran from after the war to the 70's at wich point we got overtaken by the Japanese and Italians, most of these manufacturers are now forgotten but there's some oldtimer who was documenting the period via a monthly newsletter, he transferred it to the webz with zero internet skills and more recently the guys behing the Chater-Lea revival have taken it under their wing.

It might be a bit early for your bike tastes but, it's a good way of spending an hour. https://www.classiclightweights.co.uk/builders/ click the 'Classic Lightweights' header and it opens up the site.

Oh, I’ve been on classiclightweights.uk. I love the old stuff. Unfortunately the only uk bikes you see in the us are Raleigh.

funny… the de Rosa is the most modern bike I’ve had. It’s a 7 speed freewheel and aero levers. Fancy.

This ones finally finished. Wasn’t happy with the pedals on it, so got some early 70s campy. Only the left one fit. Discovered the previous owner had the left arm tapped to 9/16, but the right was French. Got it tapped for 9/16 at the shop yesterday and hoping to ride after work. It’s a good mix of French (frame, cranks), Italian (lots of campy), and English(531 tubes, brooks pro)

..also got a few other Pace bits and bobs, and some X-LITE Stubbies (Made in UK) for that true 90's era MTB vibe, crazy as it sounds that ridiculously hard to acquire plastic Pace/Renthal crud catcher is worth more than the suspension forks.

Ive also kept the rapid fire shifters, the levers and such just in case i ever put it back to full period 90's

So, I’ve been wanting to try ergo shifters, but am kind of in love with my vintage roval wheels, which take a 7 speed freewheel. At the co-op the other day I was looking around the back room and saw a tiny touring bike with what looked like 8 speed campy ergos. I got closer and it was actually Sachs, which were made by campy. Also had a Sachs 5000 derailer set , some early speed play pedals, and a super long 27.0 American classic seatpost. I offered $100 and it was mine.

so… indexing is interesting. The Sachs went on and shifted alright, but still hanging up on some shifts. I took it off and got the 7 speed chorus derailer to shift pretty well across the 7 speed shimano cassette. Extremes will hang up, but the middle gears work well.

Ive got the same issue with my narrow/wide 10sp, it used to change up and down all 10 gears perfectly then a couple of years ago i rode up a long hill into the wind in the peaks, stopped at the top, leant my bike up against a road sign, flopped on the grass for a rest and the wind blew it over and bent the frame at the mech hanger whoops! there is no bolt on hanger, its part of the frame so i bolted a piece of plywood to it and gingerly bent it back out into what looked like the right position.. it's still not right tho, at the top of the cassette the chain sticks and shifting just loosens the cable, at the bottom of the cassette it struggles to engage the smallest sprocket, everything inbetween works like a charm tho.. think i must'av bent the deraulier too.

This is my bike. I used to ride it lots and got good and fast but life got in the way. Just went for a lazy spin around the waterfront as my first ride in months and start of my training for a thing next year. You can tell I’m a serious bike geek by my hornet
