ahaha, i can see it now: we'll get self edge to sponsor sterling silver components, a fernet bottle cage, i'll wrap the bars in leather and do the seat and top tube protector, saddle bag with a yo yo compartment, denim printed deep vee's with red tabs on the tires (which we'll sneak into the country) then we'll make 15 of em and rape anyone riding an obey bike. supercycling at it's finest

im making my first bicycle purchase in over a decade soon. im trying to choose between a few specialized's- the "tricross", "roubaix" and the "tarmac", (shown in order of mention)

anyone have anything to say on the matter?

I got my frame back today, but I won't take pictures of it at night, you all must see it's glittery glory in the sun!

also, I am going to have to run 20's because the clearane is SO tight on the fork

depends. what ru going to use it for?
seconded.

personally I think the first is great as an all rounder. room for thick, gnarly tires = WIN

i got my license suspended for 6 mon and live in a pretty spread out city, i need something to move my ass around instead of depending on friends' kindness 24/7. ill be going to school in nyc next fall and would like to take the bike with me, and seeing as how ive never had to ride in shitty snow and all that jazz i figure the tricross's wheels/tires are prolly best for the job, and its a little heavier/tougher- aluminum with carbon seat stays, fork and seat post, whereas the tarmac and roubaix (bottom two) are all carbon fiber. the tob tube on the tricross goes flat too, so its sorta nice for carrying if need be.. just a little thing, but still

"all rounder" is a pretty good word for what im wanting i guess. something with the best combo of fast, light, and practicle..

Definitely anything cyclo-cross related.

I don't know how much the TriCross runs, but there are MANY bikes I'd rather get over the TriCross, especially if you're at the very least worried about it being abused/stolen in NYC.

^all the specialized up there are avail. at the local shop, and theyre all a couple hundred less there. but itd be a graduation present, so i figure ill milk it some, opportunity to get really expensive shit for free..

im definitely worried about it getting stolen... the more inconspicuous the better i guess.

but i dont know too much, knucks, whats your pick for a cx bike in the same price range?

being in nyc, i wouldn't be locking up a road bike like that anywhere. even with taking off your wheel, etc anything that new or "expensive looking" is just way too flashy for long-time lock ups. getting a road bike up here is awesome for long rides and shit, but if you're going to commute and be locking up for 3-4 hours at a time while in class, i'd build up something a little more conspicuous or get a singlespeed for around the city that won't be as much of a loss if it gets stolen.

mlproject, i think you meant to say "a little less* conspicuous"

anywho, yeah i dont want the flashy... but i dont have confidence in myself to build up anything too decent.

and really, fuck single speeds... im not hip enough for that. plus i just dont see the point.. (no hate to mlproject and all you who love em, but i wouldnt want one)

but i dont know, maybe ill get the nice one and leave it and buy a beater when i move or something if its really that ominous, i have the chance now to get something expensive id never buy for myself so i want to exploit that best i can.. im sure you all understand

dino, what's the point of getting someone really nice if it's just going to get stolen?

i personally would go about and get an older road bike, late 80s/early 90s.

if you desire something new, take a look at the Surly CrossCheck.
