yea i have awful knees from snowboarding....

doctor said the cartilage is gone.

It would even hurt my knees to do a couple squats

Okay, start working your quads to help build them up to become the support for your knees. The knees too often take the strain meant for the quads.

-> Start a series of lunges for 5 breaths, 10 breaths etc rather than squats - be sure you have a slight inwards rotation of the forward thigh, this will support your lower back.

Example: butt_quads_5b.jpg

If it is really a result of worn/damaged cartilage, then building stabilizer muscles probably won't do a whole lot, in fact, exercise or pressure might it worse. Check with a doctor first.

Go to your family doctor and talk to her/him about it. It may be as a result of foot problems (like flat feet), which could put increased pressure and wear on certain areas within your knee.

If this is the case, then he/she will refer you to a podiatrist which can make you crazy expensive insoles, which may help slow progression.

Nice corter! You should sell those. You ever thought about making leather hip bags?

nah, i mean i could sell them but most of the craft is the baseball stitch, so i'd have to install it myself and sew it onto a frame. they're really easy to do though, you just need a scrap of leather and some thread really, something to punch the holes with and needles. thanks!

You are absolutely correct. Attempting to support damaged tissue with targeted workouts sans doctor's approval is just bad news. In fact, in that situation, I would see a doctor first, then go to a rehab specialist to make sure that your form is absolutely correct. Improper technique when exercising can cause the wrong muscle groups to be called into play, which could lead to progressive degeneration.

A general rule of thumb: don't listen to training/technique advice over the internet. Every single person has a different physiological makeup and what works for one person may not work for anyone else.

By the by, Corter...that thing is freaking spectacular. I have no clue what its purpose is, but who cares?
