Luther's Denim

Bonus: shots from my trip to my girlf's cabin this past weekend

Luther's Denim offers 3 fits using a really nice 13.5 oz. Unsanforized cone denim. While nowhere near the extremes of some of its Japanese counterparts, the fabric has noticeable slub and hairiness which contradicts the common perception of "boring ol' Cone Mills."

I took Chuck's 2 for 1 deal months ago. I have put a good amount of wear on my '66s, most of which has been documented on my instagram (I'm the only one using #luthersdenim). The '66 is described as a "Tapered leg, Mid-60's Mod Style Fit."

These '55s are my second pair of Luther's and they have a regular fit with a slight taper at the bottom. I am surprised to say that I like these more than the '66s (tapered) despite the fuller cut. They are incredibly roomy and comfortable without looking baggy. I really like the '55s hidden rivets, not present on the '66s. They are already showing significant wear through the back pocket corners after only a few days. Also, it appears that one of the most prominent fades on all of Luther's Denim's current offerings is going to be the train tracking along the outseam.

All in all, I am very happy I went with Luther's and would certainly recommend it as a low cost option for unsanforized denim. In my opinion Luther's Denim offers a unique pair of jeans that is representative of something more than "just another Made in America brand."

Nutusufu,

They're coming along well but look a little short. Did you gave them hemmed or is the inseam short? Perhaps you're very tall!

Also, Chucko - will the custom denim from Cone also be unsanforized?

Maynard,

They have not been hemmed. The inseam is about 35" double cuffed, just my personal preference.

I would be extremely surprised if Chuck was able to get custom unsanforized denim from Cone Mills since only LVC and Roy have been able to do so in the past. I have read a second hand account from another US jeans manufacturer claiming that Cone is already running at max capacity for their sanforized denim and they are content with focusing on that.

nutusufu, That's interesting, we've been talking to them and they quoted us on various possibilities. I'll be back in touch with them soon and will post an update.

Forgive me if I assumed too much Chuck. I would be jazzed if you are able to acquire more unsanforized cone. I love the way this stuff is fading.

I haven't talked to them in a couple of months so maybe somethings changed but the last time I did they quoted me on unsanforized. How custom they wanted to go might have been part of the problem for the other company.

We're planning on pulling the trigger fairly soon so I'll post an update once we know.
