Bluer Denim Project

Denim looks okay, nothing crazy. Gonna be cool having all these cheap raw denim options though in a year from now when we can fully see how they all fade.

I also like their social entrepreneurship angle. You don't usually see that.

I basically feel the same way Hog does.  Im not trying to shit on someone's hard work and dreams (or lack there of..), and I was too lazy and dull witted to type out a reply.   If they are into it, I wish them the best of luck.  if they are just trying to cash in on the made in america work wear craze that is played the fuck out as far as im concerned, then they have plenty of competition.   I am by no means a denim snob.  But I do have certain aesthetics that I require, and thus far very few american made brands have delivered.

Not really shitting on it, it just seems like every single week a new KickStarter denim pops up.

They use the same buzz words, the same Cone denim, the same "attack" on the industry and the way it's set up.

It's just uninspired in my eyes.

I haven't really seen too many things like this, maybe I don't spend enough time on here. What are some other kickstarters doing a similar thing with American selvage? I'd love to see more examples so I could understand if maybe this is really starting to be over done or if it's perhaps people are starting to get an inkling that their hobby is being infiltrated or something.

Frankly, I think this industry could stand to be "attacked" a little bit. Helps keep everyone on their toes. It gets new people in the door and it gives an opportunity for big players to remind you why you want to spend $375 on theirs instead.

For me, if you really want to do something different then start with the product. Proprietary materials and design is the best way to start surely, genuinely offer something different.

Like it or not, this is a luxury niche market with high prices, when you deal with mills, vintage manufacturing techniques and import costs it inevitably drives the price up, add to that specialist fabrics, hardware and details and you have something that does not come cheap, but that is what we want isn't it? That is where our interest lies is it not?

If I'm wrong then surely we would be wearing any old selvedge denim, we'd all be wearing GAP and Uniqlo wouldn't we?

I think what bothers me most about these kick starter brands is this rhetoric about attacking the industry. We pay what it costs and we understand why because we are educated consumers who demand quality, at least that is how I see this niche.

The hard truth is that you cannot achieve the level of product quality that many of us demand at the price these guys are quoting, you get what you pay for which is an inferior product in terms of materials and manufacture.

There is space for a lower tier of brand, the entry level products so to speak, but the good ones, and the ones who succeed are honest about what they offer and who they target.

Just to say that my mini rant is general, and in no way aimed at this particular brand, who may well be genuine denim revolutionaries for all I know. Honestly I did not even click the link.

Wow just clicked those links, it's insane how much $ people are willing to back up the company with.

I think the one thing that was really interesting about the Bluer, is that they'll ship you pairs to try on.

But yeah... my friend just asked me about it and I figured I'd ask around to see if anyones heard anything.

I'll be working on my 3sixteens for a while, don't intend to get a pair of these.
