Those are some nice engineer boots - and not to start a bloody debate, but how do they compare to the Viberg engineers?  They seem comparable in specs (and price).  I'm warming to the idea of getting some engineers down the road.

despite my comment on the last page, I am now an owner for the RRL Murdock. The new ones made in Texas..Right foot fits well, left is a bit tight, hope they stretch sooner than later

Probably the wrong place to ask but does anyone know where to source cats paw half heels for rrl murdocks? I've contacted rrl and they weren't interested, I've also contacted bitrite who manufacture them but they only sell them in bulk!

Any info would be great

Your best bet is to check eBay. If you are US based, go to your local cobbler and ask if they have any.

Most local shops have them and consider them old stock or dead stock that they will move quite cheaply.

Yeah, I would go the cobbler route if you are based in the US. There's a lot of things you might run into, not just Cat's Paw, but vintage Biltrite or O'Sullivan heels.

Would it be possible to replace the half heels with whole heels on the Murdocks?

I find the half heels wear out much too fast, especially the outside edges.

Are you looking for the heels or the soles? If it's the heels, they pop up all the time, but the soles are a bit harder to find online.

Yeah no problem, the cobbler just has to remove one or two heel lifts.

I found these in a secondhand shop for the equivalent of..........6 buck. no choice. had to pick up.

Too bad they're too big, so gave to my brother who didn't seem to appreciate them much. but, well, 6 bucks, could do a lot worse.  

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

can anyone id model/year? appears to not be raw, but with heavy wears no doubt. Tag says Sanforized, but a lot of it is faded or in Japanese.

Picked up a pair of RRL Washington Boots today! Any recommendations on what (or if) I should treat them with? Going to wear them in the snow quite a bit

I would really appreciate if some one could help me with following question. Does the current RRL Slim Fit jeans made from 16oz Cone Mills denim differ from the earlier ones made from Japanese 15.5oz denim in cut, sizing etc.? Any experiences on the matter?

 

I was able to get a pair of Japanese made denim in size 29 at eBay, but unfortunately I should've gone down for two sizes on those. Have been trying to find a size 28 ever since but seems impossible nowadays. Thanks!

I've worn these RRL Low Straight for about a year and had two washes and a couple of repairs. They are made with the new 16oz Cone Mills Denim, hope you like them!

I'm breaking in a pair of the low straight cone mills right now too - quite surprised how quick the denim is aging especially considering that I'm not really wearing them all that hard or often.

Maybe they have been chemically treated to age faster like a lot of commercial denim.

I recently picked up the Slim-Fit Rigid denim. Inside the pockets it says that they are made of Japanese woven selvedge denim. Anyone know where they get the denim from?

Not sure, but you bought old stock. They've since switched to American denim from cone mills but a lot of people have been trying to seek out the old Japanese stock. Stores carry the American denim, but they were clearing some Japanese out on the online shop for others who might be looking to get some. Can't guarantee you'll get the old stock so YMMV.

Huh. Interesting. Yeah, I purchased online -- didn't know they'd switched to Cone at all, but mine have the lettering on the inside lining of the pockets saying that they are milled w/ Japanese denim. Sounds like I lucked out.

They look quite nice, possibly the khaki jean option I've been looking for for quite some time.

From what the Tenue de Nimes eployee told me they switch from Japanese to American denim once a few seasons or years, he told me that there will be more RRL jeans with Japanese denim but you just have to be patient. Not a 100% sure though

Prob not the icon jeans, those will be cone for some years to come. However seasonal and washes will still be done in fabrics from all over, including Japan.

By icon I'm just referring to the standard 5 pocket jeans.
