its been a little bit over a year since ive graduated high school. in that time, ive sucesfully isolated myself from the majority of my friends that i considered close in high school.

i tell myself that theyre just not on the same level as me and would just hold me back to keep myself from becoming sad about things.

I went to a party this weekend and totally shut down this poor girl who really wanted to hookup with me. I feel bad because I'm pretty sure I just ruined her self-esteem. She was pretty and when I told her I wasn't going to come up to her room she was close to tears.

I really thought I was going to feel some sort of self righteous pride or something along those lines, but instead I just feel like the worlds biggest asshole.

same here. but the thing is, i HAVE stayed friends with some people from that time - so i think you really have to look at it like youre changing as a person, and if they dont/cant/have no interest in changing with you then fuck em. that or theyre just dumb.

it seems all a bit contrived to me, his whole re-branding. or rather, he just doesn't pull it off. i remember when beck was just an indie slacker wearing the same old thrift store shit night after night on tour. not saying that people don't evolve, but it just doesn't fit what i know about his personality from interviews and such... it almost strikes me as being all a part of his current mission to bring back the idea of a 'real artist' in music, which seems to mean adding a lot of bells and whistles to your packaging and forgetting to make a really good album. marketing genius? maybe. fashion guru? naw. same old broke-ass geek who spent all his cool points and who's now moved on to jacking his own style from about a decade ago? def.

i miss yearning like this. well, i guess i still yearn, but for things. i've been thinking about exploring the state of yearning as an end in itself, something to treasure even more than the object of yearning. the sad consequence of getting what you want is annihilating that hunger, that force that pushes even as it depletes you. i suppose this smacks of tristanism; Tristan laying the sword between himself and Isolde as they lay down----in effect increasing the longing, heightening the passion all the more that it cannot be sated.
