getting rid of jeans

tweeds

Recommended Posts

you know those jeans that aren't really vintage: say mid 80s to early 90s and not pre-/post-war vintagey sort of things, how would one best dispose of them? i am beginning to build up a collection of cheap, but not particularly old or valuable jeans. would it be best to pick up more of them and sell them as a single lot on ebay? or put them up one by one, or are there some online stores that will pick up interesting but not invaluable pieces for a good price?

the quality of the denim isn't much to shout about i guess, if i wanted to patch my apc or eternals (when they arrive, and when i wear them in enough so that they give way), i'd want to use better denim.

although for other projects (jackets, cmf homme slipons) you're right i could use the fabric there...

If they're like CK and Tommy Hilfiger I don't think you'll have much success on eBay. If they all have decent cuts then take them to your local vintage store. The ones in Brooklyn/NYC buy 'em up for like 6-10 dollars a pop if the cuts are decent.

they're actually old levi's orange tabs. i go and dig around in flea markets and after an afternoon of digging i find that they weren't really worth the time spent anyway. well okay i guess i learn something about vintage vs trash but still...

they aren't even selvedge sadly.

goodwill is a good idea but in singapore donating clothes generally means they disappear to the junk collector and turn up back in the flea markets so not very applicable here.

maybe i'll try making stuff with them. so the general consensus is selling them wouldn't do me much good?

Though you say Goodwill may not be the best option for you, perhaps there are other organizations that might be able to donate to poor areas or homeless teens...?

I'd say donate them some how.

I can't see you getting good prices for those jeans anyhow... and I don't think anyone could argue that you weren't doing a good thing.

so i can one day see the homeless with selvedge turn ups and hear them asking for change so they can afford a chainstitch..

Yhah, right.

Don't know if anyone else remembers, but back in May someone posted that link to a cargo container of assorted thrift jeans going on Ebay for $20,000 ...

So how many pairs have you got exactly? :)

not enough ;)

did those get sold in the end? it's funny, but the cost of storage of that container of jeans probably ate up most of that $20,000.

ive given alot away... to friends who needed something better, to thrift stores, etc...

if you dont mind taking a loss, id say redonate to a thrift store, local not chain. if not, then use them to practice sewing. some day youll make your own.

alright thanks for the thoughts guys - i'll go and send them to be cleaned up (they're filthy from the dirt on the street at the moment) and then put them aside for a moment until i start playing with the sewing machine.

cmf yeah hopefully someday i'll make my own. :)
