look carefully, they had that "raw" jean that

was "selvage" before, when it was just extra material sewn on to look like selvage.

I noticed some girl's jean starting to do the same thing, SFAM did it on a cropped jean.

Banana Republic actually used selvage denim, which impressed me, but the jean was pretty ugly.

how about "gstar raw." how moronic to name a line that with no raw denim in it at all.

Far from it. G star's first few collections shipped almost entirely on the strength and novelty of innovative fits cut from raw denim. At that time - before the jeans resurgence, when everyone abandoned jeans in favour of cargo pants - raw denim was a high end curiosity and it gave G star a unique selling point.

While I am aware that they're rapidly expanding their operation, I couldn't tell you what they're up to these days, as their direction isn't to my taste and I haven't looked at their collections in years.

They are true salvage, I was at the Gap in SF and was looking at em.
i can confirm this, they are real selvedge, but the wash looks pretty gay. this probably isn't the same thing as on the website, as these were not a slim cut, they were a bootcut or something. they didn't have the one wash or the unwashed, non selvedge version. also the girl's unwashed jeans are fake selvedge, but look ok.

Gap had some very nice and cheap selvage pieces a while back, glad to know they're putting out some new selvage stuff... I think selvage is getting more popular outside of superfuture and japan now... I saw selvage jeans and denim jackets at Zara and some at Club Monoco, they weren't that nice but were selvage nonetheless...

^^well said, horribly is entirely right about that.

The banana republic selvage, for e.g. wasn't very nice denim.

yah i have a pair of the banana republic selvedge ones, they look great and theyre a real nice cut but the quality just isnt there. the crotch tore open after about a month of wear.

they're not half as bad as the assholes that brag about how much they paid for their clothing.

and it really depends. i wont go near the men's section, as the design and fit (for the most part) is beyond horrid.

some of their denim isnt even half bad (quality and/or fit wise). these fit, and look exactly like my unwashed cheap mondays; which translates to EXCELLENT.

i have a pair of these and they are great. if they had a slightly higher rise and a button fly they would be perfect.
