have u guys ever thought about showing what your denim will look like after some wear as preview pics? since not all of ur denim is "normal" such as the dirty fade or red core

Hey SamRyz, there is an N&F fading contest for the red core jeans which ends really soon. Next week I think. So there is about to be a lot of faded photos of that particular style. You can see it here: http://www.nakedandfamousdenim.com/blog/new-fading-contest-red-core-selvedge/

Any update on the new Flathead collaboration? Been holding out for this pair for a while but I may just pull the trigger on some 3001's.

Contact Alex directly. He has some specs--including approximate release date, cut, type of denim and weight--that I believe he'd be willing to give out to those who inquire.

Answered your PM! Sorry if I'm not on the forums as much as when we first opened.. been a little hectic ;)

For those wondering, release date will be mid-November. Same cut as the first collabo. Main difference is that it will weigh in at 16oz, with FH's 1XXX denim.

For those who complained about the short inseam, we've rectified that.

I have a question for alex or any other T&Y/N&F staff who might know.

I bought the puppy dog shirt a few months ago. It says dry clean only on the tag, but after around 15 total wears, the armpits on this shirt smell so rank that a trip to the cleaners really doesn't do much good anymore. Something about the fabric retains odor even after dry cleaning chemicals are used.

My question is: Can I safely wash this shirt at all? I'm on my last legs here.

Got a question for any T&Y staff (I sent this in via the T&Y website a week ago but not sure if it got through as I've received no reply).

I already have 2 pairs of N&F jeans (loving them), in Weird and Skinny Guy fit, and now I'm looking at some of the Japanese brands you carry. Most Japanese brands appear to come in a larger fit. Do any of the Japanese brands you sell come in a fit similar to Skinny Guy, or even Weird Guy?

Thx

With the Japanese brands, It's easier to find a pair in a slim straight leg than a tapered leg. If you like the Weird Guy fit, you might want take a look at the N&F collabo jeans:

http://tateandyoko.com/1-jeans/127-naked-famous-weird-guy-big-john-collaboration.html

http://tateandyoko.com/1-jeans/125-naked-famous-x-momotaro-weird-guy-collaboration-jean.html

Our 2nd Flat Head collabo should be arriving in mid-November. We'll have it up for pre-orders in a week or two but you can take a look at the first one (which sold out), just to get an idea:

Big John does a nicely priced jean with a tapered fit, which they call a carrot leg:

For a skinnier fit similar to the Skinny Guy, couple choices:

10 questions with The Flat Head's Kobayashi-san (answers translated from Japanese to English by the FH staff)

1) We know you are a great collector of all things “vintageâ€. We have seen your vintage American Muscle Cars, Hawaiian shirts, overalls, jeans, Coca Cola memorabilia, vintage furniture and even vintage basketball toy figures! Aside from clothing, which is your favorite thing to collect?

Owe... that is a tough one (laughs) ! I would not be able to mention just one thing to be honest. But If I had to mention just a few I would say the Bel air cars from Chevrolet, the Leica M3 cameras and the Montblanc pens, my favourite one being the Montblanc Meister Stuck144.

2) What is the most valuable piece of vintage clothing that you own? Do you have any antique jeans from the 1800s or early 1900s?

Yes, I do. The most valuable ones I own are probably some Original Levi's 201 and 205.

3) You also own two 1950s style diner restaurants in Nagano, Japan called Googies. We know it’s named after the famous architecture style of those days. The food and atmosphere is so good! I love the pizza with apples and maple syrup! What made you want to open a restaurant?

I wanted to create a place where customers put on our garments and go out to gather in. That is the basic idea of creating this restaurant.

arbvfl.jpg

4) What is your personal favourite food on the menu at Googies?

Here again, this is a difficult question, we have loads of nice food!! (laughs) But I have a specific thing for the Gorgonzola with apple and Truffle pizza!

mPYSul.jpg

5) Most people don’t know this about you, but you also run the Miss Nagano beauty pageant. What a fun job! Who is the most beautiful contestant in your show right now? Also, can we be invited to the next Miss Nagano event?!

Unfortunately, as I am sure you will understand, I cannot express myself on this because of my role as an organiser. All I can say is that there are many beautiful women!! You are invited to the next one!!

6) One of my personal favorite details on FH jeans are the iron buttons. I still remember you showing me your magnet test to prove the buttons are real iron and not just iron color. Why are real iron buttons so important on your jeans?

These iron buttons are one of the essential parts in TFH jeans, one of those parts which provide the user with an aging-featured garment for him to enjoy. Just like the denim color fading, iron buttons' shape and appearance could vary over the years and those ageing features are necessary to turn a pair of Jeans into the wearer's very personal unique one. Here is how I see our brand concept: I want to offer a pair of jeans which the customer has a real attachment for and that he will keep enjoying wearing for a very long time. That passionate feeling allowed us to come out with these very specific buttons. In that sense, these iron buttons are very important to us as they entirely embrace the concept we want to transmit to our customers.

7) I remember you told me that years ago you used to work as a repairman for old Levis jeans. And the problem that you found the most was torn buttonholes on the fly. So when you created The Flat Head brand you decided to develop a new way to create stronger buttonholes. Can you explain to us how this works?

As for the previous answer, the important thing for me is that our customers can enjoy their garment for a very long time. To achieve this, you have to create a very durable fabric, and that also concerns the button hole area. So what we did is that we started looking for Jeans sewing craftsmen which could make the Jeans as durable as we wanted them to be... Many meetings & discussions face to face later, a strong relationship with them was born... and so was the Flat Head Jeans!!

For this button hole area, we use a special vintage machine called "DURKOPP BUTTONHOLDING MACHINE" which allows us to revive the traditional sewing system called "ATO MESU" providing the Jeans with a durable button hole. I have to be honest, it took us a very long time to achieve the durability we wanted, but we managed to do it, and now all our customers can truly appreciate it!

8) By coincidence, there is another famous Kobayashi from Nagano. Takeru Kobayashi is a record holding competitive eater who has Guinness Records for eating hot dogs, meatballs and more! I think you must be the 2 most famous Kobayashi’s from Nagano ever! Have you ever met him?

Unfortunately, no

9) Tate + Yoko is proudly the only store in Canada that carries FH products. Have you ever been to Canada? Please tell us what you think about our country.

I have never been to Canada unfortunately. My image of the country is that Canada and Nagano have similar aspects, like for instance Winter sports getting more popular recently as well as beautiful landscapes and so on. So I kind of like Canada!! I'd love to go there! ; )

10) What is the most exciting new FH product that is not available yet in stores?

Definitely our HMB-1CL! That is a new bag entirely in Crocodile Leather. Check it out!!

I can't wait to see the new colab jean. I hope the inseam length on the new one will be longer than the previous one. With unsanforized denim I would like to see a length of at least 38 inches. I like to cuff my jeans and normally leave my jeans at a 36 inch inseam.

Any chance the rise is going to be higher on the second collaboration jean with TFH?

It's going to be the same rise as on the first collabo.

Inseam is longer, but not 38" long. They're coming with a 36" inseam
