im pretty sure you can still get the canes with the back pocket stitching just not from u.s. retailers.

and agree with serge. if levis would just make some kick ass jeans i would gladly buy them. unfortunately the japanese are beating them at their own game. come on guys make a nice heavy jean with repro details (not an exact copy per se) without the distressing, that rivals the quality of the 'canes and we will be all over it.

Maybe an alternative would be for Levis Japan to just license the Sugar Cane / Toyo company to make all their jeans.

Surely that would satisfy the consumer, and the Jap. repro company's obsessive fanaticism in trying to recreate Levis, but never quite managing it because they cant use the actual details that make Levis, Levis.

I think this would be the best solution.

EDIT: I never really liked this whole 'pastiche / parody' thing of the whole Levis / Lee logos from the repro brands anyway. It looks a bit shit IMO, dunno why they dont just create their own brand logo like Edwin Japan did (and plenty of other Jap. brands that I'm probably not aware of)

thats basically like levi's throwing in the towel and saying that everyone makes better jeans than them.

yeah, but Im pretty sure they dont own the factory that makes their jeans in Japan anyway. (I could be COMPLETELY wrong here)

So they are effectively subcontracting their manufacture anyway, and basically just licensing out their arcuate and red tab, so they might as well subcontract it to one of their most obsessive fans who is passionate about the actual product.

(Kinda like the teacher who allows the class Teacher Pet Geek to wipe the board down at the end of each class, to save her the bother, and also making sure the job to gets done right!!)

yeah, but the thing is there do have levi's branding in japan, with especially the red loop and the black star which is targeted in that area.

they are low to accomodate a belt

i love that patch.

sorry don't know the weight

If they were 1920s belt loops the cinch should be higher. Thats the way way original Levis were. If you were to wear a belt the cinch would be under it. No belt loops on those early levis. The two pocket design came in 1901 but there were still no belt loops. Those didn't show up until later.

Heres the correct placemant of the cinch.

I totally agree with you and I've seen canes and they are great jeans.

I thnk someone made a statement a while back the LVC didn't make good repros or something to that effect. I just said that I haven't seen anyone else making better more authentic 20s 201s 37 201s 33 501s 1880s etc and some posted the canes. They're nice but because of the things I pointed out I'll stick with LVC. Also my advice is search out the 555 stuff.

To heavy also. Should 9 or 10 oz.

555 stuff raw does show up but it can get pricey. I picked up a pair of 1933 555s off ebay from Will that posts here that had only been soaked once. GREAT LVCs. The denim is darker than the 33s from a couple years ago.

LVC stuff in my opinion worth finding

1920s 201s 555

1933 501s 555

1937 201s redline 555 better than the 37 501s from a couple of years back.

1886s from last year RAW not the pre-aged stuff. not 555 but the denim is awesome.

They do. Their 555 1920s 201s,37 201s 555, 1886, 1933 501s 555, I have yet to see anyone else do these as well as LVC.

All of those jeans though, are not made any more. If they still made jeans at valencia I think I would buy them, but I ain't forking over the $400 to grab a pair of dry 555s.

$145 huh? I need to keep my eyes open. The only problem is that my size is fairly common for folks into high end denim (w30). These sizes always gather more $$$ on ebay than the larger sizes. I guess I need to start packin on the pounds.
