Time to get help if you have:

5+ symptoms for 2 consecutive weeks. At least one is depressed mood or loss of interest

-Depressed mood

-Loss of interest / pleasure (anhedonia)

-Loss of appetite

-Psychomotor retardation / agitation

-Low energy / fatigue

-Suicidal ideation

-Loss of concentration

-Sense of hopelessness / guilt / worthlessness

-insomnia (esp. early AM awakenings around 3AM and not being able to fall back asleep)

anhedonia is pretty serious, as in "eating my favourite food does not taste good kinda shit.

sleep is the telltale sign. constantly waking early is a sign that the circadian rhythm is off. (although some atypical depressives might sleep a lot.)

depression is sometimes a symptom of another condition, such as hypothyroidism. best to have a medical examination.

while we're talkin' about the importance of sleep:

a lot of people here might want to figure out if they've got depression due to a sleeping disorder or a sleeping disorder due to depression, if you fall into the first catagory it's easier to get a script for ambien and call it a day rather than fucking around with a myriad of anxiety/anti-psychotic drugs.

another thing to keep in mind is that excessive, sporadic, and aimless spending (as I imagine a lot of people here do) coupled with sleeplessness is often an indicator of manic depressive disorder - just some food for thought.

I've been in a funk for a few months but not a depressive state, more like depression's brother melancholy. I think it is the realization that i'm entering adulthood.

Exercise and health could not be more on point

sleep is good

hobbies flourishing

research progressing

just need a girlfriend, will that make it better!??

my go to is usually dear zachary, but i've seen it too much.
