Jubei hits SoHo

Hey all

Just wanted to do a mini blog entry about my trip yesterday to SoHo. Got to see a whole bunch of stores featured on SF that I hadn't been to before. We'll start with the bad and work our way up:

Recon and Union: I'll be the first to admit that I'm an avid Hypebeast.com reader, but seeing the t-shirts that the "Streetwear" scene is coming up with was pretty disappointing. I was expecting to feel baby soft t-shirts without any of the cheap, bumpy screenprinted ink but that's pretty much all I saw. And there was a decent amount of markup on the merchandise too! (as opposed to ordering direct from the company or from Digital Gravel) Over all, it made me a lose a bunch of respect for that scene... and it's one thing to be interacting with Hypebeasts online, but seeing them in person is something else. I was getting boxed out at the t-shirt racks at Union by a pair of 16 year olds! Ridiculous.

Atrium: They were selling raw Edwins for 484 dollars, no joke. If you're new to the forum, you should know that Edwins rarely break the $200 mark in Japan, and that's for the washed models. I almost laughed out loud at the ludicrous pricing. The model name was Sen Hokai, but there didn't seem to be anything about the jeans that merited that price ( it didn't even have backpcoket rivets for crying out loud!) The only thing I can think of was that the weft of the jeans was grey... BUT STILL! Anyways...

Uniqlo: This store made me feel so happy. They had piles and piles of the softest graphic print tshirts, all for 10 bucks a pop!!! Now THAT's what I'm talking about. The designs were really good too... I think they were part of Uniqlo's artist collaboration series, so the aesthetics varied from graffiti stencils to minimalist text and evertyhing in between. The materials used for the prints were pretty varied as well. They had a few metallic prints, some velvety appliques. I picked up two tshirts for myself and two for the gf. I also picked up one of those caribener pouches that you see on a lot of Japanese kids these days (6 bucks!). Overall I was one happy Jubei icon_smile.gif

Levi's: Basically went in just to try on what 47 501's fit like... I was all apprehensive that they'd be baggy and nasty, but it turns out they're the BEST-FITTING pair of freaking jeans I have ever tried on. Were I not semi-broke, I would have bought them on the spot.

I also had an "Oh, Duh" moment: I was walking around in my pair of broken in Edwin ED-47s (which fit me VERY well) and tried on the Levi's 501 47s. After I tried them on, I was like, wow, they fit me almost exactly the same as my Edwins! And then I realized what the ED-47 stood for. Silly me. Coldrice, I'm coming for those Sugarcane 47s!!!!

Blue in Green: I wanted pop by to see what jeans they had in. As others have reported, they carry Sugarcane Edo-Ais and Okinawas, some Oni Jeans, Pure Blue Japan, John Bull, and Samurai S5000VX. They also carry a few other nice little flourishes, like designer terry cloth towels (?) which I guess are "in" right now and YSL scarves.

This was my first time to handle these jeans in person, so I was very excited and pleasantly surprised when I touched them. The Pure Blue Japans are indeed extremely slubby and they did feel like corduroy pants when I touched them. Onis were slubby too (and a bit stiffer) with some painted designs on the back pockets.

The star of the show for me, though, were the S5000VXs. Very slubby, b

ever since they were located @ the vice location a couple blocks down from supreme, i've been a supporter of uniqlo.

i take trips into the city JUST to go there, and you're right. those tee's are all pretty dope with great quality, and the prices are always amazing there.
