This is where I got my Black Sugar Canes.

http://www.rakuten.co.jp/earthmarket/460157/597194/492483/

I was able to order directly through Rakuten, and had them hemmed to length, no problem. See the Options for Buying Japanese Denim thread for instructions.

The denim is not too heavy, porbably 13oz or so. I'm a 33" waist. I ordered the 32's , and the waist stretched out nicely. They are a very confortable 1947 cut. As you can see there are hidden rivets, but the patch is paper, not leather.

I'd also consider the Studio D'Artisan DP-292, a black version of the SD-103!

I have to say I'd rather have a pair with that vicious looking black (leather?) patch on the pair coldrice's link sent us to. But, shit, I ain't gonna let a little thing like a paper patch stop me from rocking those bad boys. Now I gotta see: go for the black Okies first, or Pure Blue Japan. Damn.

The title of SC40302 in coldrice's link above says:

Sugarcane

Okinawa sugarcane denim

traditional Japanese natural dye

one wash

SC40302

And in the description, is says those denims are dyed with things like plants' roots and leaves and mud. The colors available are mud dye (charcoal), persimmon juice (brown), dead leaf (yellow) and green tea (dark green). Cool names.

Yeh,

Those didn't look black to me. Other sites that sell them have pictures that make them appear almost medium grey. Cool, but not black jeans.

The beige ones look great, except for the weird sticting on the pocket. How hard does anyone think it would be to remove it?

The ones that I bought are black demin, M41301

The other ones, SC40302, are in their "color demin" series and are cupposed to be grey, not black. They are also part of the Okinawa series SC40300, which are the Lee repro line, and from what I can tell feature striated color vairation.

I did a Rakuten search on SC40302. There seems to be alot a variation in how these colors look from shop to shop.

http://esearch.rakuten.co.jp/rms/sd/esearch/vc?sv=2&sitem=sc40302

Buying them without seeing them in person, seems riskier to me than buying indigo.

Check these out:

Others to consider would be the Full Count Balck jeans and the SDA DP-292 which are sulfer black SD-103's. If you don't have a pair of 103's you should.

Samurai had a Black jean last season , but they've soold out.
