denim advice

i'm not really a denim junkie, i get down with whatever good levis i can get ahold of, but what's a really good straight leg, dark, stiff jean you guys would recomend? pictures are a plus, i know it's a broad topic, ask for specifications and i'll do what i can!

you have sort of answered your own question. Levis Shrink to Fit 501s, and then if you have the cash look at the LVC repros

Everything you read on here about selvedge etc, well thats all 'extra' stuff that you dont really need

yeah, i'm looking for stuff in terms of 501 substitutes, which are no good after a wash or two. the lvc bit was helpful thought, thank you.

you know, for the general population, i'd say 'slim' for this board, a little bit more on the side of regular, does that make any sense? and yeah, i'm find with japanese jeans.

sugarcane (japanese) makes neat repros, i plan on getting some when i'm over there.

The Regular Ralph from Nudie is a very universally flattering cut; it fits more body types well than most other jeans. A good starting-off point in my opinion.

look around, we discuss about this type of jeans all the time. There's Nudie RR, but it is bootcut, not straight, if that matters at all. Sugarcanes are more on the regular/baggy side, so I would recommend Eternal 811 (medium high-rise), Studio Dartisan SD103 (low rise), 45rpm Sorahiko (medium high-rise, expensive), 5EP straight-leg (medium high-rise, zipper-fly), APC Rescue (low-rise, relatively cheap), Denime 66 (there's low and high rise), Full Count 1108 (medium high-rise), Julian Red Detroit (low-rise, relatively cheap), Nudie Straight Sven (low-rise), Pure Blue Japan XX003 (great denim, medium high-rise), or some other like Samurai, Yen, Rag & Bone, which I don't know much about.

thats a pretty subjective thing. I consider anything over 10.5 to be high, 8.5 and under low. 9-10.5 mid.
