Footwear Sizing Discussion

Post your

- length of foot (how to measure)

- width (normal, narrow, wide, D, C, EE...)

- shoe size in different brands; if applicable, specific model (please state if US/UK/EU/JP)

-(for brands like Alden, state the last)

When there are enough replies for a reasonable sample size, I will make a brand-to-brand sizing chart as a helpful resource to ease the burden of sizing discrepancies and variances when buying online. I realize a lot of such inquiries and answers are buried within the Small Questions Thread. Hopefully this thread will be advantageous to all.

For example I am:

length: 10.20 inches

width: normal, D, 3.8 inches

US 9 nike free/ running

US 8.5 dunks

US 8 chucks

US 8 zigzag winos

US 8 red wing

US 8.5 vans

US 8.5 reebok

US 8 (UK 7) in clarks

US 9 New Balance Sonic Weld

US 8 mark mcnairy (he uses sanders & sanders shoe co.)

From my experience,

- going sockless means going a half size down

- wearing insoles/orthotics means going a half size up

- when in doubt, size half size down (a shoe repair/cobbler can stretch a shoe up to a half size up)

Measurements:

length: 10.25 inches

width: normal, D, 3.9 inches

Shoe Sizes:

US 9.5 nike free/ running

US 9 nike dunks

US 8.5 chucks

US 8.5 red wing

US 9 vans

US 8.5 Clarks Wallabees

US 9 Clarks Desert Boots (Could wear an 8.5 too)

@Vamp

Great Thread. It's funny, based on the measurements of our feet I'd think we'd for sure wear the same sizes. I can usually squeeze into the sizes you list, but my best fit is definitely a half size up. I guess size variations are more slight than I thought.

Edit: Based on the sock thread you just started, that might be another reason I wear a half size bigger. I think I wear thicker socks.

I'm an 8 in Alden Barrie..

From what I've been told, this usually translates to being a size 8 in most Alden shoes/lasts.

What might I be in Sander's shoes? Their webshop is a bit confusing.

Olly - Shoe Last: 4831

Fitting Type: F+

Hi Top - Shoe Last: JOEL

Fitting Type: F

Jack - Shoe Last: STET

Fitting Type: F

I see that F is like a US "D" width - i.e., normal.

What does F+ mean? Wider? How much wider?

I'm looking at you valhalla, with your recent purchase

because I think this thread is the best idea, i'm going to bring it back

all sizes US

new balance 7.5 in 420s (but 373s in 7.5 feels a bit confining)

chucks 7.5

red wings 7

desert boots 7 UK

anyone suggest what size reeboks I should go with? I'm thinking 8 since most of the shoes I wear have the UK size in common.

Randomly discovered that if I make a fist and line up 3 fists side by side, it's the length of my foot - heel to big toe...

All Regular width

Nike 9.5-10

Vans Authentics - 9

Chucks - 9.5

Alden TruBalance -8; I can fit a sz8 Barrie last with thin socks, but I think I might prefer an 8.5

Red Wing 875- 8

Margiela GAT- 42

Common Projects - 41

Visvim FBT - 9.5

i have flat feet (Collapsed arch)

length: 27.3 cm

Width : E (wide)

Vans: 9us (snugged)

Nike : 9.5 us

Visvim (folk/new models) : 9.5 us (fits Perfectly !)

Visvim (old ones, classic FBTs): 9us

Yuketen : 9 e

Quoddy : 8.5 e (Their size 9 feels like Yuketen's 9.5)

Common Project : 42(too long), 41 (too tight on the width) ---> not a good brand for a person who has flat-arch

Alden : 9D

Sperry : 9.5

i wear just about everything in us10, 43 in GATs, etc.

i once owned a pair of cp bball hi's in 43 (this is 3+ year ago) but they were really long, but really narrow. i sold them. 42 however, was fractionally too short and definitely too narrow.

is the fit the same accross the CP line and / or has the sizing changed?

how does lad musician sizing work ?

arbitrary sizing works like

  • 42 = 25.5〜26
  • 44 = 26.5〜27
  • 46 = 27.5〜28

i'm a true sz 8.5us, so i'm guessing i would be a sz 44?

does sizing vary across season as well?

interested in the creepers from this season

That's correct

Lad Musician sizing runs completely arbitrary compared conventional European sizing which confused a lot of people, it's meant to match your clothing size.

From what I've heard the continuity in their sizing from season to season is barely cutting it at best

Ryannn is selling a pair of recently released Lad Musician sneakers so you could ask him

Here's mine:

Adidas shell toe - 7.5

Converse Chuck Taylor - 7

Cinzia Araia - 40 IT / 7 US (true to size indeed)

Rick Owens Geobasket - 39 IT / 6 US

Kriss van Assche 2013 Paneled Sneakers - 39 IT / 6 US

So I ended up getting a pair of 2013 RO Geobasket trainers and as I suspected it's sized a tad big, sort of like the KVAs. My actual foot length is 9.5" (small, yeah) which is literally a size 6.5 US exact, but I usually buy size 7 (Chuck Taylors) or 7.5 (Adidas shell toe) to have 3/8" to 1/2" extra toe space. I thought for sure the Geobaskets would be roomy, and since it wasn't available in half sizes I went an entire size down to 39 IT ~ 6 US. It fits like a glove all around, but still with extra toe space if you can believe it. If I got a 40 IT (straight conversion), I think it might have been too big. It's tighter than I usually get my sneakers but it's comfortable once I have my foot in. Granted that my foot is a little wider than normal, all in all I'd say it's almost a perfect fit.

For anyone wanting to get RO Geobaskets and KVAs, if you are ok with a snug fit, go a half or full size down. If you want slightly extra room, get your usual size.
