Just gonna go ahead and post a few things I've made recently that I think are decent. I'm using an Elektron Octatrack and more recently an Analog 4 as well. Everything is recorded live into Ableton so if you notice any sloppy cuts or muting/unmuting its cuz I don't care enough to go back and rerecord lol. 90% of what I do is just some couch jam that I end up disposing of, but I do end up recording some things occasionally.

Very jealous. Tryna make a move away from the laptop and I just got a Focusrite Saffire 6 for free and still figuring out what to get for my first synth. And what sequence/groovebox to get. All on a tight budget, sometimes think its better to stick with soft synths for the price. Got a long way to go

thanks : )

I recommend getting a microbrute as your first synth. They are very affordable, sound great and offer all sorts of modulation options with other pieces. The Korg Volcas are also a good option and are even cheaper

anyone who spent years and years producing in a DAW hit a wall of severe diminishing returns? nothing i make is remotely good anymore and i'm beginning to suspect it's because i'm completely sick of navigating all the fucking stupid little windows to change settings and alter midi notes. not only that but its completely JOYLESS. not even unenjoyable but extremely fucking frustrating. there is no spontaneity and excitement anymore. its just gritted teeth and disappointment. smfh

on top of that one of my monitors' amps blew out so i have to work on headphones. fucking sad

which DAW you on? I feel you on the diminishing returns part, not been particularly happy with my fruity loops productions of late.

i use live. if i had the cash i would switch to hardware + live, maybe get a tempest, some pedals and a big modular + mixer. my sweetwater wish list is 25k lol

I'm running a hardware + live setup currently and it's quite a bit of fun. I have a mixer that I run all my gear into and then basicallly just use Live to record and arrange. My drum machine has a 2 channel CV sequencer so I have my bass and lead sequenced there and then play my poly synth over top of that. My next purchase is a Cirklon sequencer so I will be able to have everything sequenced through that, really looking forward to it.

Like I said it's a lot of fun, but it hasn't really made me anymore productive. I still have a lot of unfinished tracks and I also struggle to come up with work that I'm happy enough with to see through to completion. In the meantime though, the hardware stuff is waaaay more fun to play with and is more inspiring than pushing around midi notes in Live. Another bonus is that jamming with friends is a lot easier when you have hardware

Anyone have experience transposing a bass pattern with a keyboard live?

A good example of what I'm looking to do would be the bassline from the Blade Runner End Titles.

The repeating 16th note bass pattern based on 3 pitches follows the root notes as they change. I'd like to be able to control transposition like this via my keyboard live.

My setup is simple: a Roland Juno Di, connected to an iPad that runs Nord Beat 2 as a drum sequencer.

The Juno Di seems pretty limited, but if there's anything native to the instrument that can pull this off, I would love to know.

Are there any iPad based apps that can pull this off, or would this require additional hardware? Would appreciate any help on this, thanks!
