Anyone here who have skinnier thighs comment on the tightness/baggyness of the 103s in the thigh area? Is it more to the tightness of RRDS or to the baggyness of sc47s?

Also im thinking of getting a 32 one wash. I bought the sc47s in 32 one wash and they were perfect. Or should i size down and get a 31 to take into account of strectching?

Is there a way to tell if it is a one wash or raw model from the tag on the SD-103's? I'll probably be buying a size 30" pair, although I'm still not quite sure what size I should get after reading the thread. I'm a size 29" in Nudie Straight Svens (30" is a little too loose, 28" I can just button up).

Hi guys,

First post but have been 'lurking' on SF for the past month or so. Would like to ask if anyone knows which fit (sda-101 or sda-103) would be closer to the fit of SC-47s? Am looking to get pair that are of a similiar fit (not too slim). Kinda leaning towards the 101s as I'm worried the 103s will be thigh-crushing. Thanks in advance!

It kind of depends on what size waist you are. I'm a 34" and my thighs are pretty huge from cycling, but the 103 34"s were a little wider than I thought they'd be before I got them and I have plenty of room. A 28" would be much skinnier all the way down obviously.

SD-X03s are not really "slim" fitting jeans in the way, say the x05s or the LHT equivalent D1002 are. The latter jeans are slim fitting bootcuts with about an inch difference in the knee and hem circumference. They fit *considerably* tighter through the thighs, and are pretty much a straightcut except for a very gradual bootcut from the knee down (and this is really gradual, since the length measures out at 36" raw. I know that someone had BIG transform a pair of SD1002 into straightlegs, if bootcuts are not your thing, and you are looking for a slimmer cut than the X03s, which are slim only compared to repro cuts...

sd 103 is hardly a modern bootleg. its not even marketed as a bootleg. when you say bootleg, i feel like everyone including me is picturing a RRDS cut or a levi's 517 cut. These are far far from a bootleg. Granted these are also nowhere near a taper, i think it's a bit misleading (even if you do measure these out to be wider at the hem than knee) to hear bootleg and sda 103 in the same sentence. APC bootleg is what i feel you are getting at, but SDA 103 is def more straight than bootleg...

The SD 103s fit exactly the same as Edwin Nashvilles. I would not call them slim. I have athletic thighs and the Nashvilles have still quite a bit of room. In fact RRDS and 5ep Bootcut has thighter thighs than the nashvilles. Slim is what i call PBJ 005 or Nudie Slim Jims.

I would call the Nashvilles, SD103s and Eternal 811 as modern versions of 501 1947s.

Hmm, my nashvilles are quite a bit slimmer than my sda-103's, though I agree with the modern 501 repro.

This begs the question. How "modern" does it have to be to no longer be a repro? Are the SDA bootcuts repros of 517s? Are most 5 pocket jeans of any brand Levis repros because the back pocket shape is generally in the Levis shape, the coin pocket is nearly always the Levis style, as are the placement and number of belt loops? And Levis has been around so long that they've made bootcuts. flares, tapered jeans, cinch-back loose straightcuts, etc... so that pretty much any pair of jeans looks *somewhat* like some pair of Levis...

Thanks for the help, mcflip.

I'm 6'1", a 36" and always wear my jeans at the hips. I don't cycle but I play basketball and my thigh measures approx. 24.5". I have seen some pics on here and some look rather slim, maybe tight even (crotch to knee area). I like the fit of a SC47 and would like to get something a touch slimmer but not too much? Hope this explains things better, am not really into the leotard-like second-skin fits.

Also, some of the Japanese websites such as C.Point advertise the waist of one-wash SD103s to be 86.5 - 91.5cm (92cm on SDA website, I know). Does this mean that it will measure 86.5 after a hot soak and then stretch out to a 91.5? OR does it require you to measure yourself and see which 'bracket' you fall into? OR that SDA sizing is inconsistent and you pretty much have to 'lottery' it?

Sorry if these are noob questions, guys. Thanks again.

from a lot of things i've read on the site about sd's the sizing appears to be a little inconsistent, especially with the raws. there have been instances where people who've purchased raw jeans have had the waist size be 2 inches bigger than tagged, and thus shrunk 2 inches after a soak to tag size. whereas some others come in as tagged and shrink under the tagged size. i think the former is more prevelant than the latter?

Thats true. Repro at it's purest form should be identical to the final detail, but much better. Like buzz rickson does.

Nashville is 501 like, with same style "curved" waist, details and cut.

No, SD's sizing is not inconsistent. One thing you have to learn is to NOT trust measurements from forum members, the sad truth is that measuring a pair of jeans is a task too hard for most here. I trust SD, BIG and some other Rakuten stores, I distrust Bears and 99% of the people on here.

The waist circumference of Japanese jeans after wash is in 99% of the cases the same as tagged size, +/- 1cm. The glaring exceptions would be the Samurai S0500XX and all VXs that don't shrink to tag size, at least not from the first wash/soak. Sanforized jeans are often bigger than tag size as they are often made the same as unsanforized jeans(~2" bigger than tag size unwashed) and don't shrink a full 2".

Basically, you don't need to ask about sizing Japanese brands. Rule: shrinks to tag size, stretches to 2" bigger than tag size.

That made a lot of sense. Thanks for the help! :)
