SD-103 - 2 Months - Pics

I have the 103s which might be slightly differently sized because they are unsanforized.

Som guy on styleforum had a pair of 203s that didnt shrink to tag size if I recall right, but according to the charts they should.

http://www.dartisan.co.jp/size.html#SD-201

My 103s were sized about 2 inches larger than tagged when unwashed, shrank to tag size and then stretched out about 4 cm. I don't know the 200 denim but I'm guessing they would do about the same, so a 33 could work since they can probably stretch out 1.5 inches to 34.5".

if you want a slim fit, maybe you should get the 203s instead? They are slimmer and lower rise than 201's.

I actually prefer the higher rise of the 201's.

I think I'll downsize on the 201's and hope that the waist stretches out over time, rather than upsize on the 203's. I don't like having a loose waistband.

I think I'm gonna go with the 201's in either a 32" or 33" waist, which according to their website is actually 32.6" & 33.6" respectively.

Hopefully I can squeeze into them and the waist will stretch out over time.

Can someone tell me what the 5th measurement down on the SD sizing chart is?

I believe it goes:

Tag size

Waist

Rise

Inseam

?

Leg opening

What is that 5th measurement? Thigh size?

Well now I'm thoroughly confused. icon_smile_dissapprove.gif

I'm just not fond of the lower rise on the 203's. I suppose it doesn't make too much of a difference since they do have a longer inseam though.

I figured if I sized down on the 201's, I would be able to get a slimmer fit, yet still enjoy a high rise and wider leg opening than the 203.

If I do opt for the 203's, they are sanforized, correct?

I'm not looking for dior homme type slim either. For reference, this is how I like to wear my jeans..

I have the 103s and they aren't as narrow as I thought they'd be. They're far from a baggy cut, but they really aren't that much of a deviation from a tradional 501-ish cut. I'm also a true size 34, so when you get any sort of stovepipe jeans in this waist size, they're going to be a tad roomy. My only real complaint about the cut is that it doesn't taper much after they pass your hips. The seat fits good, but the waist was loose and (this is probably sacriledge, I know) I had them taken in very slightly on the inside seam so that they leg width and opening would measure 8". I did make sure to preserve the overall shape of them tho, so it's not like they taper or do anything stupid like that.

Also, my 103s have stretched to be about 36" at this point, and with the low rise, I need a belt or else the world is getting about 4" of boxers if I bend over. I'm certainly happy enough with them to get another pair someday in which case I'd probably size down to a 33.

The denim itself is gorgeous, but it got a tad fuzzy when I soaked it. the "hairs" are still working themselves out. Here are some pics. The closeup pic is the closest to their actual color.

maybe you have to size down? because the size they give is after shrinkage but before stretching so very soon you end up with one or two inches too big.

btw, nice pics. thanks.

sorry to dig this thread up - but after all the discussion about shrinkage on the studio d'artisans, i am a bit confused. how reliable are the measurements that SD gives on their website?

http://www.dartisan.co.jp/size.html#SD-102

can I trust the measurements? from my understanding they are after shrinkage. what are people's experiences after they washed their pairs of SD? do they come close to those measurements?

and finally i would appreciate any hints of which size I should get in the SD-001s when I'm a true size 33...?

any help appreciated, thanks!

I'll post an update by the end of this month.

dubwise,

The measurements are correct, but, they ignore the stretching. I bought a size 34 thinking that they would remain 34 after shrinking and stretching. Actually, what happened was, they shrank to 34, and in some hours stretched back to 36. I wish I had bought a size 32 so I could keep them at 34 after stretching. Anyone had similar experiences with stretching or just me?...

thanks. yeah, the denim is quite good, I'm certain that they will look great after 6 months and a wash. On the other hand they aren't very exciting before they're broken in, the denim does not look as special as that of say Pure Blue, but I guess the same thing could be said about the Sorahiko's, maybe they're a bit slubbier though, I'm not sure.

reading this thread, i'm amazed no one's mentioned anything about HUGE BULBOUS KNEES. i'm just in the earliest stages of breaking my SD103s in and DAMN the knees bag out.

obviously, they're still starchy as hell and they'll drape differently but could someone please set my mind at ease and tell me the denim isn't stretched in itself making this permanent?

honestly, i look like olive oil.

otherwise these feel really sweet. very encouraged by your two-month shots jinx.

They will definitely calm down some, but that is the price you have to pay for dry heavy starchy denim. Sometimes it is just the stiffness and creasing that causes that, but if it has actually stretched out, then you should try spraying some water on the affected area and they should shrink down some.

can't seem to find the information on this thread, but anyone know how much the hem (width of the legs/leg opening) will shrink, if any? mine have a 9" opening raw right now and was going to put it through a hot wash.

What size?

Be sure to post pics after washing those SD103xx

Best girlfriend ever!:D

the jeans are size 32 (purchased from digital_denim). right now, although not completely dry, the hem is around 8.5" (wish they shrank to 8"), and the length is 34". haven't been able to measure the waist yet. i will be very upset if they don't fit me and i have to sell them!
