I searched, and was kind of surprised to not find a dedicated art thread. I have a few artists I like, but I'd like to get some other recommendations. Do you collect? What do you like? What's your grail in the art world? For me, it's an original Thomas Leung Lava's Decent. Saw a number of his pieces at a gallery in Kauai and I just stared for hours...

Tons of texture, all oils.

What is everyone else into?

idk if you are familiar with "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas," but the artistry throughout the book is composed by Ralph Steadman.

Before experimenting with Hunter S. Thompson in the practice of LSD,

Steadman was an already successful artist, and had a unique style to his name.

Here, we have Steadman's creations before experimenting with LSD.

After doing so with Hunter S. Thompson, his style began to transform.

In an illustration of H.S.T., Steadman portrays him, like most of his other human portrayals, as a beast.

cool thread

like a lot of people on superfuture I am a graduate of an art school

my concentration was in photography so I'm gonna drop a photo first

this is a pretty well recognized Jeff Wall photo, but Jeff Wall is probably my favorite color photographer and I've always loved this photo.

one of my favorite painters is George Grosz

although I don't agree with his views on women, I think most of his paintings are incredible.

Wu GuanZhong 1919 - 2010

A controversial modern Chinese painter who was seen to be too progressive in what he considered a very institutionalised national art community. Wu blended traditional brush and ink technqiues with influences such as Impressionism. He set a record price for a work by a living Chinese artist in 2007 (Ancient City of Jiaohe - US$5.9M).

Art grows in the wilderness. Individuality is vital to the artist. He should turn down the offer that he be artificially raised. The artist should let himself be at the mercy of the brutal forces of society and nature.

Asger Carlsen is a photo artist who manipulates photos to bring a sense of surrealism into a real world. Here we catch up with Asger as he talks about everything from his early days as a newspaper photographer, his upcoming book, and his inspirations.

Check it out.
