Old Lee reissues- who loves em?

Haha, don't think I'd get away with a wall display. Not without being sectioned.

I was talking to a friend once about another mate who collected old radios. I suggested he was maybe a bit over the top. Then my girlfriend interrupted and made me run through every pair of jeans I had. And then the denim jackets. By the end it was inescapably obvious I had some terminal obsessive compulsive denim disorder.

But now I've taken the pledge.

i just received some '37 cinchback Lee repro's from aero leather (about $270 after the UK pound to US peso conversion), and i must say that these are the best jeans i've ever worn. worth every hard-earned dollar. the cowhide patch still has fur on it, and was really branded! and i would say the fit is like '55 LVC, or the original APC Anglais. the denim is japanese, so i guess i don't need to comment on quality. but bar none: my favorite-- and that's saying a lot considering the size of my collection. i was worried at first because they say that the japanese repros shrink up to 33" inseam, but after a warm delicate wash, they actually didn't shrink much; still about 37". so no buyer beware for us over 6'.

The Edwin-made Lee repros are some of the best higher-cost jeans around, similar excellent denim to the Euro ones, but much nicer detailing. I can't unsdertand why Sugarcane make Lee repros, when these are available. it's the denim that makes them, though - stiffer and crisper than Levi's. They're somehow a little more glossy, which means they look nicer than Levi's before they wear. And they fact that they look so good without wear is what makes them wear in so well, if that makes sense - you're not tempted to rush the process.

I have those two newish pairs Euro to wear in, though, before I spend $$$ on the Edwin-made jeans. But do let us know how they develop. Are the 37s r-h denim?

Got a 1964 Heuer Carrera in the end, by the way. Cost me a damn sight more than I thought, tho...

Hey Paul,

Congrats on the Heuer..post some pics if you can.

Also, I picked up a pair of the Euro 101Bs and I was just wondering if these take longer to achieve good wear since they soften up so quickly. I bought mine over the Xmas hols and they've basically lost a lot of rigidity whereas my Nudies RRDS are almost a year old and still have lots of stiffness left.

Any thoughts? I assume the Lees are softer because they're LHT?

Well, I didn't soak mine. Initially because they were supposed to be sanforized (which dind't much change the shrinkage) and later because I decided to dry clean only. I didn't particularly notice mine softening quickly. I think you'll be fine if you keep washing to a minimum.

As for that Heuer... all it cost me was four pairs of Lees, some mint tagged LVC 1933, some psychedelic box sets, a Leica lens, plus a camera case and meter...

i'm pretty sure they are right-handed. and they certainly are stiff. i have a pair of euros too (with the dreaded 'fake selvage'), and quite like those as well. i just find it hard to believe that these would shrink to 33" inseam. even if i dried them a hardcore dryer, i can't imagine them shrinking above 34". if you are 6'2" you can wash and wear these jeans. still can't get over the patch being a full hide that was actually branded.

off topic: i have some raf simmons jeans coming soon, which i gather will be like the dior hommes, another favorite.

To be honest, after my last experience when someone who shall remain nameless bought them cheap then straightaway sold 'em on the 'bay for more $$$$, if I do sell that's where I'll do it. But I'm glad at least a couple of pairs went to a good home.

And btw, nairb, you don't need to have em tight to get good wear. AS has been said, i think it's more to do with it being quite stiff denim.

Oh, and I agree re that hair-on-hide patch, it's terrific. Even though I was a veggie for many years, still nothing beats wearing a good ol' piece of animal.

Ok hold up, I was talking to you for over a month about those jeans, then you go and sell the cheap pairs to a dude who'd only been in contact with you for like 15 minutes. What kind of BS is that? Also, I wasn't planning to sell them on ebay, I just did cause they didn't fit. When I tried em on I looked like MC hammer, what else was I supposed to do with them? And anyone else in my situation would of done the same thing.

Paul...are you into psych stuff?? i've been digging pretty far into that genre for years now...let me know if you still listen to this stuff...maybe I can recommend something you haven't heard. psych records and lee reissues....not much better out there in the material world.

That's a kind offer. I sold Rhino Nuggets 1 & 2 - they're safe on the iPod now. I'm a big fan of the US Kaleidoscope stuff w Johnny guitar Watson. I do have a psych guru who burned me some cool stuff by JD Blackfoot, Kak, Morgen, Rainbow Ffolly & Silver Apples etc recently, plus a load of Japanese (The Mops), Peruvian (Laghonia & Traffic Sound), Norwegian, Venezuelan and other crazy psych. He has all the original vinyl (I'm happy with MP3, I have enough stuff). Are you in Europe? I have a spare mag u might like...

The other day, for some new project, I was interviewing a woman who turned out to be the onetime singer of the Insect Trust... she was well pleased someone had heard of her.

Back on topic...

I need someone to tell me where I can get Lee Japan (edwin made) 101b in a 36x36?

IS THIS POSSIBLE?????

I have seen on Yahoo Japan auctions that they have 33x36, so obviously they do make this leg length.

I am desperate to get hold of these

dude, you're totally safe buying the "33" inseams. they are still a 37" easily after a warm wash. i just don't see them shrinking 2 more inches when they didn't even shrink an inch on the first wash (which is usually the majority of shrink-a-tude.)

ah, my lee's have finally arrived.

paul- i have since noticed that the ones i have just gotten are not the same as yours. Guess i wasn't paying attention.

In any case, these are pretty fantastic in their own right. these are lee 101b full selvage repros i guess.

question- are these sanforized? I can't seem to find any indication that they are. they would be PERFECT if they would shrink a little bit cause the way they are now, after they stretch they're going to be a tad loose i think.

edit:darn, i have since found out they are sanforized. interesting though, they are left-hand twill.

if anyone wants a pair, these are tag 30x36, but measure in at 16.8 inches laid flat, 34 inseam.

THey look like the newer Euro ones. Are they marked Made In Poland with a half, open selvage? In which case they are the later model, but they're still good jeans. According to Aero Leather, these are sanforized, I don't see how they can be as they're less expensive than the previous model... but either way I would guess they would shrink. And I'm sure they'll look terrific once worn in...

I can't say for certain, but I think all the Lee reissues shrink to some extent . Of the 11 pairs I owned there's not much difference between the ones marked Sanforized, and the ones not marked sanforized. If you look at the pix you'll see the marks from the original cuffs before they were washed are in much the same place on the sanforized and nonsanforized versions.
